I've been making some calls but so far, just voice mail. I'm sure everyone is worn out. I believe Pro-Am was on the line today..

from the article, " MacClugage, 28, an 11-time IJSBA Pro National Champion, grabbed the lead at the start and held it for nearly an hour when his boat took on water and stalled. After losing about 12 minutes in the pits, MacClugage returned to still earn the second place."

Dang, 12 minutes in the pits and still got second place.

Jeff,

At Surfside I asked Andy about his thoughts on triples and his reply was concern about reliabilty for the whole endurance season kept him from running them.

Maybe RP & Joe, or the GP1300, or the MSX will change his mind . . maybe not. Smile

Andy usually wrenches for a BUNCH of people on race days. What I'm sure he could use is a sponsor to provide another good mechanic/tuner. But that probably would just let him help more people.

Reading the article about his finishes over the last 3 years, I'm sure wasn't meant to be a downer. Bbut it did kind of make it sound like he's on downhill slide. However he was first Amateur and is also first Vet rider this year, too.

Way to go Andy!

DC,
This year was the first year that any of the PRO's showed up. He usualy would clean house as we have seen before. If there were no PRO riders with $40,000 ??? boats it would have been the same.
Tripples:
2 weeks ago Andy rode Fercho's tripple pipe GPR. Since then there has been a little thought in the back of Andy's head thinking about tripples and I am sure he is thinking harder after yesterday and will have plenty more time to think about it on his drive back to Houston followed by the drive to Long Beach. Some compression wouldnt hurt either.
Sponsor :
I agree Someone needs to sponsor him. James Crone would be good.

Not knocking Crone or anything but Andy Wise deserves the amount of sponsorship that guys like Mike Folmer have. Andy deserves major backing/sponsorship from seadoo in my opinion.

Hey Danny you are right. Andy does deserve the major backing from Kawasaki.... If you read the article on the IJSBA site they make it seem like Andy is already backed by Kawi.. Go figure... I give Andy allot of credit for his accomplishment.. I am sure Region 5 is very proud of him.

Jeff,

I bet those triple ideas have been kicking around for a while! Smile Still, even with a near identical back-up boat triples are a cost and a risk that needs to be calculated and funded.

To everyone else,

All of the TeamSport group are a bunch of great guys. And it's impressive how genuine these guys are. These are the kinds of guys people in many other sports would move near, just to rub shoulders and improve themselves.

Any word on Marty and Lynn Roberts?

Fercho,
In the pits a fan & STXR owner tried to talk to Mac about modding his boat and the fan got the brush off. Mac told the fan "I dont have time" and just walked off. On the other hand Billy Wowack was there(but did not compete) and I here he was as nice as could be. He even offered to meet up in Long Beach to show some of the fellow amature racers out to Catalina. Wowack is a stand up guy.

Sponsorship:
I totaly agree Andy should have Full Blown sponsorship. I just picked James Crone because he to like Andy is a underdog who comes out swinging hard till someone drops and usually dominates their competition. They are the little people in this sport.Could you imadgine if Andy had a evenly comparable boat it would have been a whole new story, or better yet put the Team KAWI guys on some our relistic boats, that would be even better. Andy was not beat by ridders he was beat by money boats, money boats blowing out $50 bills out the tripple pipe exaust, 3x $50 = ? LOL Big Grin

How bout it James, Andy is leaving tuesday and could use a set of tripple pipe's and a head for Catalina ?
Big Grin
How bout you Riva ? a tripple piped 03 GPR for next season of endurance. I think he would go YAMI since he rode Fercho's tripple and than quickly offered to race Fercho's boat for our last endurance super coarse race. Big Grin
Taking all request for sponsors ? Big Grin

Congrats to all who finished the 4hr race!

I was there and it looked like only 6 riders were left at the end! The Kawi guys made it look so easy as it appeared they never let off the throttle until they pitted for fuel! Good job guys!..........Cya!

A friend of mine, Greg Saugstaad, is doing the R&D for the Kawi tripples at Factory Pipe. You would be surprised how little money needs to go into an STXr for it to dominate. The first races that were run with BP racing the STXr only had tripples and some pump work, hardly $40k, more like $12k. I posted this info earlier this year.

Here is a fact, even in stock form STXr's are dominating local races. Another fact, Jarrett bought a "performance package blah blah blah" GPR, over $14k, and his STXr with little modification KILLS IT it in every aspect except smooth glass water.

Mark Dobson runs a tripple piped GPR. He has a ton of Yamaha Factory Support. He has always dominated in offshore/endurance racing. He has not won a race where team green ran. In fact, he raced the vet class to get points as well in case the team green went after the pro title. Do we even need to talk about what is happening on tour? Where are all these 80mph GPR tripples? 3rd and 4th.

Look at the World Endurance champioships in Europe, stock class 1st-5th Kawi, Super Stock 1st-5th Kawi.

As for Mac, I used to talk to him quite a bit in Havasu and he is a jack***,but he still is a great rider. Obviously the best, since he has won titles for every manufacturer who ever backed him.

Billy Womack, I met him last year at Long Beach, it is obvious why he is the Polaris poster boy, he is one **** of a nice guy and a great promoter of our sport. One thing though, If you were to build his boat, it would cost you over $30k. My friend at factory pipe has ridden both his Billy's boat and a STXr with just tripple pipes added, and guess what, they were almost equal.

As for Long Beach to Cat this year, I would think there might be a new champion as well.......any guesses?

Unlike many on this board I am not brand loyal and I am not afraid to say so.

Andy and I have talked on occasion about exhaust systems and many other different modifications. Right now, I'm not in a position where I can sponsor *any* outside riders. I went to a grass roots "in-house" only sponsorship back in 2000 (we have our own company race team). In fact, we too are looking for sponsors and have picked up a couple a few weeks before nationals. We had extremely HIGH hopes at Nationals this year, but we had two reed failures and failed to qualify for the mains, despite being in transfer spots in the heat race and LCQ when the reeds let go. That's two major events in a row (last year at Havasu and then this) where we have failed to qualify for the main event. It's very fustrating when you go three years without any kind of mechanical failures and then you get three in a row (last three motos we have DNFed).

Havasu will be a last ditch effort for me as far as racing is concerned. If our luck doesn't turn around, I'll be forced to do what many others have already done. Abandon the Superstock class and race the stock and Limited classes from now on. Andy should have no problems finding a good sponsor or two. He's a great rider with a lot of heart and I wish him the best, but right now, I have enough problems of my own I need to deal with....
