I saw an F-14 flyby, but there was no explosion. Only the rooster tail it kicked up from flying to close to the water. The pilot got awful close to those to ships it flew between though. Is that the one your talking about?

It's titled, "Break sound barrier and more".

My guess is that either the airframe failed or an engine failed and threw schrapnel into a fuel tank. (Used to be a big problem when the A model'Cat was introduced)

Also check out RC House Jump. I used to have a 1/8 scale Ofna but never did this with it.

I saw the explosion. It turns out that both crew members survived (searched old articles). I believe you can hear someone saying "Two parachutes!!" on the video.

And it was an engine explosion. Seems there were several such explosions over the history of the aircraft.

Yeah the P&W TF30 was a POS, the GE F110 that replaced it is superior in every aspect, it was like dropping a kawi 1200 in an XP...

I tried to hire on to P&W in college when I found out it was their J-58 that powered the SR-71. That was one awesome aircraft. According to an ex-sr71-mechanic site, they didnt lose a crew in 25 years, despite the conditions it flew in. (they did lose a few in initial test flights)
