the title says it guys..can you believe that chit!?!?!?!? My Xterra in my Sig has had FIVE FULL exhaust replacements since November....All covered under warranty, but I have 29,000 miles on it and am starting to sweat the expiration...I am on a first name basis with the service dept. head and have started to write letters to Nissan Corp. regarding this problem. Granted, they have fixed everything mostly in a timely manner..but still, absolutely ridiculous that they havent (until #5) actually bothered to try and figure out WHY WHY WHY!!!! 02 Nissan Xterra Supercharged 92 Superjet 701 90 SJ 650--asleep 95 Blaster--motor is assembled! |

this time they ordered another part called a "y" pipe..forward of the cat..
the cat has been replaced like 2 or 3 times as well.... you think a pursuit of the lemon law is warranted? Im sure Nissan does not like the fact this is an emissions related problem, something like that would be likely to make them sweat moreso than say a tranny or anything else problem.. 02 Nissan Xterra Supercharged 92 Superjet 701 90 SJ 650--asleep 95 Blaster--motor is assembled! |

You shouldnt have any prob having it replaced after your warranty expires, most car manufactors have longer emissions warranties usually till around 80,000 not sure about nissan even if not you should have 12 months or 12,000 miles on any replacement parts even if it was repaired under warranty or whatever kind of parts replacement warranty time nissan has.

getting that problem covered under warranty believe me is not the issue...The issue is that it has happened FIVE FREAKING TIMES!!!!! I bet the odds of that happeneing equal that of winning the lottery on a 2 year old vehicle with 29,000 miles...It blows my mind that no effort was taken on their part to solve the problem, not just fix the symptom..

if the cat is dying you have an emissions problem coming out of the engine. If an air leak at the cat is killing then where is the leak and why... if corrosion is setting in..that's stainless isnt it..that would mean a lot of moisture..another engine problem.

Honestly, I think I would have them give you a replacement vehicle. New, of course. There is absolutely no reason at all for an exhaust system to go bad 5 times. It seems like a major engine problem could be on the horizon for you. I'd get rid of it before the warranty goes out and get another vehicle. Too much potential for costly repairs after the warranty expires.

Im not sure about anywheres else buy her in Louisiana if they fail to fix a major concern on 3 tries it falls under the lemon law so if that is a federal law im not sure if it is you should look into it, sounds like time for an upgade.

get a borla or flowmaster stainless cat back and don't worry about it ever again

depending on your state laws the lemon law will have to have affected the vehicle at least three times and been in the shop for a certain amount of time. also, it HAS to be a safety concern for it to even be considered for the lemon law designation. at least that what the law is regarding this issue in pennsylvania

Scott, I'm not entirely clear on what parts of the exhaust is actually failing when you say "five full exhaust replacements since November" (maybe I should read the rest of the thread
Anyhow, with more information we might be able to get you more answers or better advice depending on how you want to approach this. There's really no reason for the repeated gross failures to remain a mystery. Rick 97 WaveVenture 1100: "Dr. Phil" Doctor, I'm in need of therapy |

,ne of the problems is that I just LOVE LOVE LOVE my truck...There was not another 5 speed, 4x4, supercharged model with alloys in greater than a tri-state area. Someone had special ordered it and never took posession...
I doubt that the salt would be causing this problem...They are just dying TOO quick..The first one lasted 19,000 miles and not one since has lasted 3-400K miles... I would take a replacement vehicle, no matter how much I like this one...It would just ahve to have the same equipment AT LEAST that mine already has...I would even pay the difference for additional options if need be.. Flowmasters are an option, and woudl sound sweet with the SC engine..but that would be defeating the point..Now, if Nissan would foot the bill for them then by all means. What would make me happiest woudl be a 100,000 mild bumper to bumper warranty at no cost to me..I didnt buy an extended warranty to start..but with the amount of trips Ive made to the shop, the mileage that Ive lost over time (you can feel the engine being robbed of power), and just the general hassle of having to worry about it..I honestly feel like I am owed something...am I being unreasonable? 02 Nissan Xterra Supercharged 92 Superjet 701 90 SJ 650--asleep 95 Blaster--motor is assembled! |

after 5 times, they have to have said why this is happening.
Time to tell them if they cant diagnose the problem then you are going to call nissan customer service 800 number and find out what you need to do to get the problem diagnosed. They will wake up and do better. Since they are emissions the warranty is longer for the cat. Since the rest was replaced under warranty then they can continue to be replaced out of warranty until the issue is not 'open'. Go to the territory mgr, call the 800, do whatever but only after you tell the dealer you are going to do it..give em a chance to pull their head outta their azz first. i dont think u have a lemon law case, u gotta do it the hard way... dav_dman@yahoo.com, used 04 rxp and B1 on the xmas list. 04Honda F12X at home, 02 in stpete, both boosted a bit. 97 venture1200 for sale soon. |

yeah, im not especially after the lemon law..I mean, I truly like every other aspect about the vehicle (well, minus the mileage..about 15-16 on the highway)..
The service department has been helpful, I just want the thing fixed...However, if a little ranting and raving will get me a comp'd extended bumper to bumper..Im not above a beligerant (sp?) phone call or 2, or 3, or etc... 02 Nissan Xterra Supercharged 92 Superjet 701 90 SJ 650--asleep 95 Blaster--motor is assembled! |

They should at least give you the option of adding the extended warranty before the standard issue runs out.If I liked the truck that much I would look into installing larger capacity cats, duals, and some lifetime warrantied high flow mufflers.
