Well I start with the age old question, that will spark much battle but hey I'm just not sure. Here are my options that I am looking into. An STXR, GP1200R, or GP1300R.
Heres what I know STXR- PRO Good hole shot compared to GPR. Good in rough water. Lighter than GPR. Faster than GPR stock? CON Hull crackign issue, but tend to be on Eurpean models, usuall race craft. I do plan to race. GP1200R PRO Realiable. No real issues except for a small pump. Lots of aftermarket parts. Looks good. CON Has propoising issues, but so do most boats. Has impeller spin when starting out. Poor Holeshot obviously from the above. Not grat in rough water, but isn't that more fun? GP1300R PRO Relaible. Looks good. Super fast stock. Fule Injected. I could register it if I ever move to Cali. CON Same as 1200R. Can't race in 1200 class. Not to many aftermarket parts yet, Family Fun and all !) Heft Price tag. So what do you guys think. I try to be informed but maybe I'm missing. I'm leaning toward a GP1200R that is left over fromlast year. Please share your opinions Thanks acanswers |

Gp1200R will out run an STX-R stock for stock. Pump plug kit, power valve clips and 13/19 prop on your GP1200R and it will be as reliable or more reliable than any ski out there. 1300 is a nice ski but (just my preference) I prefer the carbed vers 1200.
Jury is still out on the STX hull cracking. I also noticed that my Yamaha engine holds up much better than my friends Kawi Ultra 150 when it comes to salt water corrosion. My engine looked brand new after 3 summers hitting the ocean. Kawi makes a good ski too. You really can't go wrong on any choice out of the 3. Price tag would be least on a new 2002 GP1200R. |

ac, I would check out the cracking hulls issue on the stxr before I would invest in one. I have seen enough and heard enough to know that there is more than a isolated problem. I have been considering buying a new ski myself, but I am now leaning towards waiting on the new Honda r-12X to see what it can do. Remember you won't have the kawi 18 wheel trucks there to be repairing your hull if it starts cracking while you are racing. rp

Im trying to stay away from the four strokes. I feel there is much more product development of aftermarket parts for them. My goal isnt to have the necessarily the fastest stock boat, just a super fast boat.
Im 17 and live in Havasu. There usually isnt much to do. On occasion Ive been known to go down to Body Beach in late afternoon to watch Rius and Fish. Riuss boat is the coolest thing I have ever seen. Ive ridden the buoys with him. Note, not against him, being that he was so fast he flew by me before I could even react to the spray. It was awesome. Ive never been so happy to get passed before. Really I get passed all the time. Who wouldnt with a stock GP800? Its cool though. I love it. I want to get faster and be better. I want to race while we still have racing. Somehow it feels like Im giving that up if I go with the 1300R. I know I will probably never race. Nor will I ever mod my boat to 80 but maybe 75. Ill find a way. I just have to have clear decision in my head. That is one thing about my GP800 no one could have said anything to change my mind. I knew it was the boat for me, but now it is time to move on. Go Faster, Ride Harder and Jump Higher. Well maybe not the last one, but I can try. Out of Curiosity how long before Yamaha moves away from Family Fun back to performance? I need something right now, and it is looking a lot like a GP1200R. Id hate to buy used so if anyone sees one at a dealer please notify me. Id love to get one right out of a crate no scratches and stickerless, but I doubt that will happen. If you have any further opinions on the matter please share. Like you guys dont. Thanks Amber (Acanswers) |
