I just realized I posted this question on the Honda forum. I'm an idiot. Anyway, my friend and I each just got a GP1200R. We have been discussing how to attach our tie down straps to the rear of our PWC's. Yamaha has a pin you can buy that goes through the deck, but I was wondering if anyone has come up with their own system. Another friend of mine has a GP800R and he runs the strap over the seat. I don't really want to do that. Any ideas would be great!

Hydro-Turf makes a set of tie down straps just for the yamahas. Instead of a hook at the long end it has a pin that locks in place in the tie-down holes.

That sounds like what Yamaha has. Do you know how much the Hydro-Turf straps are?

I use a tie down that I have for keeping things secure in my truck. I put each of the hooks on the trailer somwhere at the back where they can be tighted and the metal is strong enough to handle the wrenching (There are spots around the taillights somewhere where their are eyelets that I use and believe that is what they are for anyway) and just tighten the strap. That nice large boarding deck makes a nice place to take the strap over becasue the GPR doesnt have a tow hook like my GSX did. Hope that helps.
Also, Riva Crew, will probably want to move this to the General Topics forum so it may show up there later.

The part I was curious about was actually attaching the strap to the GP. When you run the strap over the rear deck does it slide around? I've noticed that the deck is angled.

Just thought I would bring those 2 posts over from the Honda part. In regards to your question, yes it is angled you are right, as long as you get it tight, i have never had mine move around. Hope that helps.

I bought some of the tie down pins, then I found something a lot simpler; I just pull the tie down strap apart into two pieces, run the strap up through one hole and back down the other, and put it back together.

Same here! Works for me. When I get home I loosen the strap to keep the pressure off though.

We sell what's called a 'Buddy Strap'. They're typically used on motorcycles to keep the locking mechanism and hook away from the bars and fuel tank when strapping a bike down. Any motorcycle shop should carry them.

Basically, they're a 2' length of strap that is looped to form a figure 8 and then the ends are stitched together in the middle. It forms two small loops. You slip one end through the bow-eye and loop the other end back through itself. Then you hook the tie down to the buddy strap and secure it to the trailer.

These are handy for all kinds of things and they're fairly cheap. I keep a few in the back of my pick-up just in case!

I use two straps with the pins in back and the front hooked to the winch, the system performs flawlessly, not a blemish anywhere on the boat, specially the seat gets a nasty mark when you run a strap over it. No wonder Yamaha sells the pin equiped straps. Wink

dav,
Riva's "Buddy Strap" is just a motorcycle tie-down; you can pick them up at any motorcycle shop. I used to use them to hold my ski down before I started using the strap only like in the pics above. They work fine, but they are just more stuff to keep up with.
