Ok all my Riva Forum friends, I need your help again. Does anyone know of Jet ski or waverunner banns in the outer banks of North Carolina? PWC rentals are allowed, but that is in a controlled area, so I have heard both yes and no regarding the allowance of personal pwc use. Please give me a heads up before I spend $8,000 for a beach house rental - and then I can't bring my GP.

Well I tried to find some info on this before with not a lot of luck. Apparently they are banned in the Cape Hatteras National Seashore wildlife refugue. Which is the whole **** island.

Last I heard it was still in debate. I'm not sure what became of it.

Check this out about halfway down the page. Not sure if it applies to Cape Lookout too.

thanks guys, still not sure if it applies to where I am looking to go. Do you think it affects the areas by duck island or kitty hawk, or nags head?

areas that are banned to PWC however allow rentals is due to the "grandfather clause" cant kill a buisness if it was there prior to the ban.

this is very trick... basicly comes down (useing the senerio above) to how nice marine patrol is, and how resonable the judge that heres your case is, oh and how ballsy your are to fight the thicket in court!

it sucks!

You can launch just over the Manteo Bridge on the left. Go past Tail of the Whale and it is on the left at the end of the bridge. You can then ride out to oregon inlet and jump waves.

OK so it took me a little while to get logged on here. 2 jobs leaves little free time. I live in Kill devil hills, nc. We normally put out at Avalon's public sound access. Mile post 6. Marine Patrol is cracking down on unsafe riding, no wake zones and proper equipent. Southern shores has no wake in all town waters. Duck has rentals and I haven't heard off any problems for non rental. I can't think of a launch area though. Anything north of Duck has banned launching from anywhere (no beach or sound). Oh yeah I have 2001 GP1200R. Kitty Hawk has ramp, but no wake canals 1 mile to open water. Kill devil hills is the only one that has approved beach launch but you cant drive you truck on the beach to launch. Also you may not refuel on the water, you have to put it on the trailer and pull it up the dune. Surf rescue said you have to stay 100 ft from swimmers and beach.
When we head for the beach and waves we trailer to Wanchese public dock. Oregen Inlet(banned launching)is 4 miles or so on water. just follow the bouys because some areas are only a couple of inches deep. Hope this answers your ??? See ya on the water. Phil

Wave size depends on the weather off-shore. Last year we followed a fishing yatch up the inlet and his wake was all of 4-5 foot(fun but didn't campare to the open ocean). I am trying to find out more facts on beach launch. 2-w Oil is $20 gal. new, $15 in your container at local dealer. We have our own 55 gal. drum it is so much easier. 252-441-7687 fobxgpr@jetski.com
