This past Saturday at the final race of Region 8 in Seaside Hieghts New Jersey a guy showed up with a Honda R and ran it in two runabout classes. I thought he had no chance against the triple pipe yamahas, twin pipe XPLs ,STX-Rs and Ultras in his class. On his first race he fell and went to the LCQ. After winning the LCQ he had the last spot on the line and took the holeshot. I thought it was luck but he did it again 4 times in a row and took home two first place trophies. I realize now all this talk on these message boards about what ski is faster in top end doesn't matter on a race track. That Honda took off like a rocket and no triple pipes could beat him to the first turn. I looked carefully at the Honda and it was bone stock running pump gas. Yes the Honda is expensive however those Yamaha triples where worth way over 10 thousand. I can't imagine how that ski will run once performance parts start to hit the market. I am a born again believer.

Yes indeed that Honda blew everyone away. Just to give everyone some perspective though, let's keep in mind that he was running in beginner's class where everyone is pretty lacking in experience, I'd love to see how that boat fares in against the more experienced classes, where it can't run against stock boats as it's turbocharged and will be in a different class, I think limited where the STXRs run fiercely, and so do the Doos, unfortunatelly it's not a great class for the GPR, so the Honda will likely take them with a competent rider.
Handling on that boat is impressive and Hondaboy rides it quite well. Mario 2000 GP1200R Super Stock 2002 STXR 2002 Ford SVT Lightning. FOR SALE: 1997 GP1200 "slightly" modified 1998 Wamilton's Superjet (ex-Josh Lustic) Go to www.PWCToday.com |

i have to admit i was laughing when i saw the honda out front.I am always impressed by anyone who will try something new instead of just jumping on the bandwagon.I can remember when we were the ONLY kawasaki runabouts on the beach.Loved the sponsons by the way.i think they may have been a "bit" deep to be legal but who cares.i do think when he steps up to novice stock and has to run against doc or Andrew he may find things harder.
well mario, time for the "cold and depressed"signature again.i just sent my broken cylinder off to be resleeved.i knew something wasn't right with it before i went to the line for moto two.a reed screw backed out and tore everthing up.it was inbedded in the head dome.congrats to darryl for pulling the holeshot on me.i was smileing ear to ear when he did it.i love to see someone put it all on the line to win.big props to him.he had the "win or swim " attitude goin on.i gotta find some top end.that will be my winter project.i got some tricks left.you guys goin to the last one?talk to you later, scott p.s you owe me a roll of white duct tape.ha ha |

Scott,
well since you are not going to the next race it'll have to wait till next year, unless you want me to UPS it to you. But you know what the one I put on is about falling off, so how about i send you a ball of duct tape yes Darrell did us all proud, he's got that "I can smell Havasu" thing going on, and if he rides like that there, he's gonna smell more than just the town. Yes, Doc and Andrew are no joke, hey BTW was Andrew by chance did you get the number of that truck that hit me? LOL Mario 2000 GP1200R Super Stock 2002 STXR 2002 Ford SVT Lightning. Hey mario it's Willie A.K.A. HondaBoy. Nice to see someone talking about me. Mario don't give me that bull about me racing against stock boats. You know darn well there where triple pipe Yamahas running my class. I was intoxicated with all the race gas burning at the line. You know the beginner class is a "Race what you brung" class. Darrell told me there where some very fast boats in my class. Even he said he wants to buy a Honda next year.
I had to remove the sponsons because they where too agressive. I'm putting a backing plate on them and pulling them up more. I'm taking the Honda to my parents house in Orlando over the winter. My friend owns an "Import Car" performance shop there. We are going to play around with aftermarket ECU's to boost the Honda's performance so I can come back next year and challenge you (Mario) Kawi66 and Darrell in the Novice class. It should be alot of fun. I seriously need a toploader scoopgrate. I already manufactured some pretty good sponsons. Former REE-DOO owner. Well Hondaboy, if you read the post you'll see that it's not implied or said that you were racing against stock boats only, but rather against other inexperienced riders, the STXR that was running against you was stock, there were a few stock boats and a few triple piped boats that I don't think were quite limited but closer to than s/s. I'm not trying to take away from your fire boy, so calm down. Now you will NOT be competing against me as I will be on a stock boat next year again and as you move up you'll have to start as a limited on your stock boat, but since you are messing with the ECU you will likely have to run in the s/s class. You will be going against Scott and Darrell and all can say about that is good luck.

Hondaboy congrats on Saturday. Darrel told me how you like to launch from the line. I will give you credit on that one. Unfortunately as for me I took 3rd in the first moto and then downhill from there. I guess my luck pretty much stunk at the beginning and end of the season. Other than my smashed topdeck that I need to fix I now need to figure out why cylinder #2 was not firing at all on Saturday. So rather than running a triple pipe GP1200R I was running a triple pipe or is it a dual piped GP800R.

Mario I just checked the IJSBA rulebook and the ECU can be moded and still run limited because the motor will be untouched.

SPONGE!!! Congrates on the Number 1 plate for 2004. Be careful dude. Honda Factory racing is coming for you next year. I may do the entire season to take that Number One from you. HA HA. Let me know when you plan to leave to Havasu. I plan to go. I want to ship my ski out there. I heard it's a beautiful place to ski. We should rent a Houseboat for the whole week and park it near the race coarse. That would be a great idea. Lets get several guys together and split the cost. I think it's around $1200 a week.

That Honda ran away and hid from all of us at Wildwood too if memory serves me right. Sorry about running over the top of you in the first moto HondaTurboGuy. I'm still trying to learn to ride the STX-R but it's getting easier. Mario I heard you are going to be sponsored by the 3-M Corp. next year, something about white & green duct tape-HA! Congrats to both Darryl, Scott, Andrew & Mario on their great year and all the advice they have given me. Hopefully I will get used to the "R" for next year. Think I'm way to old to run with all the young guys in novice so I'll show up in the "old folks" class. Best of luck to all

Well hondaboy, seems like the limited class will have a run for their money but you will still not be racing against me, but I'm sure that limited will be competitive in the s/s class so you could do great if you ran both classes and have a chance at Scott and Darrell, but I still say.."good luck"
You gotta let me try that Honda one day after all red IS my favorite color. Mario 2000 GP1200R Super Stock 2002 STXR 2002 Ford SVT Lightning. FOR SALE: 1997 GP1200 "slightly" modified 1998 Wamilton's Superjet (ex-Josh Lustic) Go to www.PWCToday.com |

A sponsorship from 3M would be great Bill, though if they run more Mummy sequels I could get a BIG sponsorship from Paramount
