well, it ain't even hit the gulf yet. Seen on the nes where predict it to be a Cat 3 by landfall judgin from the water temps. Frown
I just want it near us...no body does. I haven't sat thru a hurricane since Alecia in 83.
it sucked...no power for 2 weeks, water for 1 week, BBQ'd alot and had plenty of neighborhhdo camping. I was onyl 14. I remember hearing lots of generators and helping nieghbors cutting down branches the days following. It sounded horrible thru the night.

It would have to be a bad a$$ for me to leave. I am a good ways from the Gulf. I only worry about a big old oak tree that is in my front yard falling and hitting my house.
What it funny, is that Barry is leaving Saturday for a cruise to Cozimel from Galveston. He is a little worried!

I am actually just north of Austin in Pflugerville (where the red star is on map, and The Oasis is overlooking Lake Travis:
You will have to zoom out and over to the left to see the lakes, sorry tried to get that picture to be the link Frown

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?formtype=address&s...X&zipcode=78660-7918

Spoke to a guy at The Oasis, and by next summer latest, all will be brand new, they are open and have partial decks, but still have a way to go, as the restaurant took the biggest hit by the fire. They are rebuilding in phases, so like I said by next summer latest, all will be back and better than before!

Awesome view, as you may already know, as it sits about 450+ feet above Lake Travis and has the best sunset around.

Here is their website link: http://www.oasis-austin.com/

Recommend to anyone that loves the lakes and wants a view some 450 feet above the lake and watch the sunset right on Lake Travis!

Food and drinks are good, little pricey to some, but you can't beat the view and the sunset on the lake is what draws people from miles around.

I take it, you have been there before?

I have been going to Austin since the mid 80's. I've been to the OASIS every year since 1994. We love that place, its a ritual to go there verytime we goto austin. AWESOME VIEW !!!! nothing can match it. I miss walking out on the ***, but since 9-11, it has been blocked off.

I use to bring my Sea-Doos there twice a summer to ride. bvetween there and Canyon Lake are my favorite road trips for bringing the ski.
Texas Hillcountry is God's country IMHO. I hope to retire there. My wife and I have been looking for property to buy in the hill country for the past few years....still trying to find a location we feel comfortable with.
We were in Brehnam this past weekend at a family camp. Had a blast ! horseback riding, fishin, swimming, dancing, nature trails and rock climing...awesome weekend. Great family bonding !

My favorite breakfast stop is "Owen's" on 35

Cool . . . I was out on Walter E. Long Lake this weekend, closer to my house (also known as Decker Lake.) Seems we have a lot in common, Canyon Lake, New Braunfels area with Schlitterbaun is awesome area as well along the Guadalupe River. We float down that river at least twice a year . . awesome place. San Marcos, TX (lots of fine women in Texas . . especially around these parts where they aren't afraid to bare the tops on the river! Big Grin

Here is link to Schlitterbaun: http://www.schlitterbahn.com/ in case anyone wants to see or if they are coming to Central Texas and like many lakes and great fun . . between San Antonio & Austin areas are the best part of Central Texas with plenty to do. Brenham isn't bad either, just been a while since I've been there . . gotta love that Blue Bell ice cream! Big Grin Port Aransas and South Padre Island are good places along the beach to name a few . . but you already know I;m sure!

Sweeeeeet! I still love the Schlitterbaun in New Braunfels along the spring fed Comal river . . water clear can almost see bottom !

Best hot sausage I have ever eaten is in the small town of Gonzales, TX. about 55 miles South on Hwy 183 at Gonzales Food Market.
darn good sausage, and every time, we eat there,
we always get a box of frozen to bring back . .
still have some from my 20th class reunion lastweekend . . ummm ummmm good! (think I
might go nuke me a piece) heheheh Smile

Gonzales, TX is where the 1st shot was fired that started the Texas Independence, and led to the battle of the Alamo . . . little Texas history, they have celebration each year 1st
weekend in October called "Come and Take It" as the flag made out of a wedding dress was
made to the mexican army when they wanted the
cannon back they gave the people of Gonzales to
protect them from the indians back in the early 1830's. Battle didn't last long, one mexican troop was killed and they never surrendered the
cannon either!
