WOT on the Ultra in a cove tore up with wakeboard boat wakes.

I got in a set of crosswaves where two sets of wakes from wakeboard boats going opposite directions came together. I thought it was cool. I was showing well over 68 on the dreamo when I went into them. I was trying to run a set of "timing jumps" where you load the ski and treat them like great big dirtbike whoops. Land on the backside of one and preload to launch back off another. Course you know this doesn't work in crosswakes cause there's no timing pattern. Fourth jump caught me short on the landing and I came back off it in the air crossed up. Came back into the fifth one with the nose down and right, tail up to the left. It spit me eyeballs first into the water and the ski endo'ed and the grab bar nailed me in the back and buttcheek (neoprene vest thank goodness). Black and yellow and purple from the kidney to the back of my right knee.

Walked like festus for a couple of weeks. Made bad faces when I walked, too.

I had had the Ultra for 2 days. That's when I learned about the Ultra Hook.

Hard to forget..

Ok, I had just finished my Stage1 mods and it was the first REAL smooth water I had seen. I had finished several runs of 65+ mph and was screwing around on the ski. I tried superman-ing and found out that if I held that position, the ski got higher RPMs. Figuring RPMs = speed, I went for a test run in the SUPERMAN riding position. The first pass was 67.something... On the second pass as I was slowing down to get my feet back on the boat, I caught a tiny ripple. The ripple in turn jerked the boat ever so slightly to the right. I slid off to the left, my knee slid into the footwell and got trapped. The whole ordeal made me grab the throttle and then it all went to Hello.

I fell off the ski but my knee was twisted in the footwell. My other leg hit the water and, acting like a pole vault, launched me head ofer heels of the ski. Hey, at least my knee was free. I learned that day that at high speeds, everytime a body part hits the water, that body part acts as a pole vault that continues the fliping. When I finally came to a rest, I saw stars. NO, I mean I really saw stars.

Needless to say, all said and done, I lost 1 boot off my foot, both gloves, the lanyard, and an earring in my head. When I swam the 1/4 mile to my ski and got aboard, I had no way of keping it running. After I rigged up a string around the kill switch, I spent the next 10 minutes picking up all my floating appearl, including the lanyard.

I must say after I got it all together, a Kaw 1100 blew by and I chased after it and promptly spanked it.

I was in so much pain I stopped on my way home and picked up 2 bottles of pain killers. For 2 weeks the back of the trapped knee leg was black and blue from my foot to the middle of my back. I had a bruse soo deep in my arm it raised a peanut sized knot. I had ringing in my ears for 24 hours and a headache for a week. And the worst was I didn't ride for 10 days. I never saw a doc, but I didn't recover until Janurary the next year.

I wasn't going fast, but it sure seemed like it. I was riding a stand-up for the first time and was paying more attention to my balance than the throttle. As soon as I realized I had it at WOT, my balance decided it was gonna take a break. A few seconds and a couple dozen yards later, I realized that I had leaned the opposite way I needed to and locked the ski up on an edge and it stopped, but I didn't. No more of that for me. I'll stay with my couch, thank you.
