If anyone in the east valley reads this, and has some curiosity about the Lake Pleasant race, then shoot me an email.

The BP events are pretty laid back. Lots of folks around to help, and get you started. Questions, are welcome. Stock style watercraft usually do real well in 4 hour races, due to reliability.

They have a map up. Looks to be a 4 mile course.

If nothing else, show up and watch some racing. There are alot of good people there, some local. It's always cool to meet other local riders and swap stories.

Hey Mark, you ever thought about racing any of the Bullet racing long course events? Mark & Larry are, I'm thinking of trying it out. I may have to race the GSXL until the GPR is done, but.....

Hey MATCOMAN you coming out to play?

Actually,
I had heard about the bullet LC's, but didn't know if they were a reality or not.

What all do you know, and have they posted some dates, and locations?

The more Arizona races, the better.

Email received from BP racing.

Dear fellow racers and friends:

As of this morning we had a total of six entries. When we returned to the office this evening there was one additional entry. Only two of them were from Southern California. Here they are:
1. Tracy Malan and Johnny Custom - California
2. Steve Friebe and Charley Evans - California

Arizona:
3. Ted and Tammy Thompson - Phoenix, AZ
4. Mark Hahn and Steve Mulligan - Glendale, AZ
5. James Colter and Mark Conroy - Mesa, Cave Creek, AZ
6. William and Conrad Beilhorz, Phoenix, AZ

And just received (not processed)
7. Larry Noble and Larry Ham, Rio Verde, Phoenix, AZ

Needless to say, at this late date, and even thinking that there may be another 8 to 10 teams from Arizona and maybe two or three more from California, that would make it just over 20 entries, which is $3600 to $3900 dollars in entry fees. We could not even begin to pay for the extra insurance, ambulance, staff, Lake fee, awards, etc. We cannot continue to lose money at these events.
We therefore have POSTPONED the Team #1 until possibly March as we need to secure a location in Southern California such as Lake Perris or even the Salton Sea, where racers from Arizona can get a break on traveling distances and So Cal racers can make it.

We spoke to a number of California racers and most had decided not to race because it was too far to go. We had hoped to make this one event in Arizona our yearly opener and a way for us to say thank you to all those racers in Arizona who travel down South all year long.

We feel terrible about having to do this but honestly, we cannot continue to lose money on these events or even break even. With 35 or 40 entries things could change, but not with less than 10 entries two days before the cut-off date.
We realize that there are some racers who like to sign up on the last day and at the last hour. But we can't continue to operate this way.

Let there be no misunderstanding. We are NOT out of business, we are not canceling our All-Around Off-Shore/Endurance Series and we're not giving up. We're going to look for other options. Tracy Malan suggested that we do more direct mailings other than just e-mails and posting on our website. It has not worked very well for us in the past, but as soon as we know what we have for this season, we will do a mailer of the entry form or at the very least a postcard with most of the information on it. We have almost 3000 names in the Western States.

We are willing to try anything to get off-shore/endurance racing going again. I can't tell you how humiliating it was when I heard that the Endurance Nationals was awarded by the IJSBA to Texas. They said "because Texas has a lot more entries than you do." And after this past couple of years, I can't say that I blame them. I'm embarrassed but I also can understand it.

There are some pending issues between us and the IJSBA and we will try to resolve them. But I heard that some racers did not want to race with us without insurance. I can tell you this, whether with the IJSBA or by ourselves or another organization, we would never do an event without the proper Liability insurance. But again, each rider has to chose their own preferences.

Today I made the hardest call for me ever; and that was to speak with Mark Hahn because he has worked with us on this event since 1998. We were so close. But Mark is also a businessman and when I explained to him the financial realities, I think he understood the problem. I'm sure he didn't like it, but I think he understands. And I personally want to thank Mark for his great efforts and his great friendship.

Later today I also spoke with Tracy Malan, and he, too, understands but also feels bad for Mark and the Arizona group. I believe he's going to make the trip to Lake Pleasant nonetheless, and just have fun with the guys and take part in the BBQ. I strongly suggest that if you were planning to travel, give Mark a call and tell him that you're coming to have fun with the Arizona racers and crew. We cannot do an organized event, but we strongly suggest you try to make the trip.

Lois and I are just heartbroken but we are still dedicated to launch this season in high form. Any other suggestions from you will be welcomed and appreciated and we will certainly consider it.
Entries for the first six racers have been processed and we will return your entry fee or carry it over to the next one. Please let us know. Ham's and Noble's entry was not processed.

Thank you for your understanding.

Best Regards,

Lou and Lois Peralta

To all:
The following email was sent out to the BP racers in Region one. I'll avoid writing what I FEEL about the whole situation at this time. I know there were more racers(teams), and volunteers with boats, that were coming to this event. Yesterday, I sent BP an email and requested the racers contacts.Unfortunately no response. If you know of anyone that had planned to make the trip to Phoenix, or was local and was going to race, but has received this email PLEASE get in touch with Mark at RPM.. If you are still interested in doing something outside of this BP event this saturday, please call Mark at RPM. 623-879-0342.

Looks like it's gonna be ANOTHER busy season at Bullett!!!
