I just raced a GP1200r today. I've raced a pretty good amount of ski's and usually don't have a problem pulling away except with a Ultra 150 and some modified yamahas. Today me and another guy lined up, he set his trim and we were ready. We raced in fairly rough water but I beat him out of the hole AND top end...wtf? I thought that the yamaha would eat my lunch...nope other way around! Is the only way a 1200r can beat me is in smooth water? And another thing...why do people claim that the F12x sucks outta the hole? Most people, even the ones that have beaten me always talk about how great it seems to pull outta the hole...weird. No flames, just posting my experience as a 1200r was on my list to look at before I purchased the Honda...I just prefer the 4 stroke and not necessarily speed. It'll be interesting once the mods to help the honda on top end come out..riva..ya listening?

Sounds like you raced a 800r or a GP.
I would have to say that the guy you raced didn't know WTF he was doing.
Not trying to pi$$ you off...
just the numbers I've seen beg to differ.
I know this is going to be a very heated topic!

I'm not knocking your F-12X because that's what I'm gonna get if I have to get a 4 stroke, but with a top speed of 58-59mph, that must've been a weak GPR with a weak rider, or an 800, they look the same. If it was a 1200, take it as a compliment to your riding; he had the faster machine, you just know how to ride yours better.

Thanks for the input. It was a 2001 1200GPR...had the sticker on the side that stated so. I thought it was more of certain conditions than "driver ability" Smile I really need to get my hands on a GPS. When I first started riding it would hit around 62...now it regularly displays 64-65MPH. I know it's not correct but it does show a slight increase. I would guess I'am doing 60-61 under ideal conditions. Yea I guess I should of paid attention to that guy. He was one of those guys that bragged about hitting 70...any experienced guy would of known better than brag about that Wink Is it me or does the Gp1200r look soooo much better than a Ultra 150? Granted the 150 is fast but looks kinda dated...thanks again for your repsonses

I believe Afro, I've rode the Honda turbo and a US GPR (not side by side though) and the F12X didn't seem to cavitate as bad as the GPR and was a very good surprise in the chop.
So for me it makes sense. And Afro fairly admitted the GPR was faster on glass.
Slim, don't forget a GP holeshots a GPR.....
And the "F12X sucks out of the hole" claims are more about turbo lag than hook up, compared to the F12, but it didn't strike as much as the GPR's cavitation.
Poor GPR, those three seaters are giving it hard times....

You still have a stock GPR??? Wink
Honda is a BIG threat, if they produce a 2 seater in 2003 it will be a killer.
Afro, yes, the GPR is the best looking ski around and Kawasaki stylers aren't on the par with their engineers.

Actually that's where I was yesterday Wink Lotsa boats out. I raced near the marina towards the dam. I probably won't go back though. It's almost a 160 mile round trip from where I'am at. The water is murky as mud too.

I was just wondering if the guy you were racing on the GPR was racing you..or if you just thought he was because you were in front of him..I had a few guys say they beat me and I wasn't even racing them..just because you take off doesn't mean the race is on..Nothin against the Honda or the new FX-140..but they are not racing machines..they are large boats that run good..and those motors probably will not end up in a small 2 seater..Ya get kind of sick of these stupid race stories..There's always something that will blow you away out there.I was at the Ski Races in St.Pete today..there was a GPR there that smoked every Ski in the water by a mile..in the start of the race in the first 3 hundred yards he was 2 hundred yards in front...what a machine...I guess thats Y it had a #1 plate on the side.

Well..when the guy drives up and asks to race and we're at a stand still and he says "Go"...yea..I consider that a race Wink We did that twice. I know what you mean about being 200 yards in front of the person and consider yourself a "winner"..lol...that is not a race..haha. Yea, the F12x isn't meant nor is a racer...that's why I was shocked when he couldn't keep up.

You guys say the Ultras are ugly, that GPR looks like ORCA the WHALE....that's gotta be the worst looking front end I've seen.....

PS

There was a F12X at the Baytown races today and some of the Kawaski guys there were complimenting it on it's acceleration, said it turned like a turd but was otherwise impressed....

I also have an Ultra, and even with Kawi Factory war paint, it's still ugly, I have a GP, but IMO, the GPR looks great, the STXR is ugly too, but I don't buy a ski because it looks good.
The best looking ski ever to me is the RXX, but it's just about the look...
I don't like the Honda's look, even if I like the ski, but I never liked red (sorry Mario) even on Ferraris (and I LOVE Ferraris).....

I think that the late 80's and early 90's Seadoos are the best looking skis. they look like left over props from Star Trek or something. j/k

I need to find one of those Honda's down here in Atlanta. I have already paired up with a 4TEc and MAN that is a big (not so pretty, but neat) boat. It sure is silent. I like the looks of the GPRs and the Mazaltan Blue Seadoo RX's..that is a good color!

-GT
(Afro: Beware of Fercho, he is the all-knowing swammy of the GPR - if you got a problem, he has the answer. I heard that he has his ski modded to do 90mph running on just corn chips and Bisquik)
