I watched the "Duel 150's" and your right, Harvick is gonna get what he deserves one of these days! NASCAR says that Johnson got loose and lifted, but I watched the replays over and over... Harvick was bump drafting him through the corner, of course he got loose! Waltrip and Jr took 1 & 2 in the 1st race. Stewart edged out J. Burton in the 2nd race. After Harvick took out Johnson, Rusty, Martin and damaged Nemecheck and a couple others... I particurlary liked the interviews after the wreck though! Nemechek talksed smack on Harvick when he was like 10' away, then threw a water bottle at him! Big Grin Gonna be interesting on Sunday, bunch of good cars got wrecked, so watch out for some revenge!!

GO Roush Racing!!!! #6, 16, 17 & 97!!!!! Big Grin

Sorry guys IMHO NASCAR=watching paint dry.

Real circle track racing involves dirt and sprint cars.

Also can't beat anything that runs on nitromethane. AHH the sound, the smell....

NHRA the fastest motorsport.

It is going to be very interesting. Harvick know better then to bump draft ina turn !!! I think it will be a test of DEI vs. Hendrick power this Sunday. Now we can't leave out the Roush Stable either. I am a Gordon fan...I hope to see a Hendrick car at the finish line at the least, it better be a Chevrolet.

I was just watching the Speed Channel, Mark Martin justhad the skin on his car totally replaced from Harvick's idiodic move. Luckily many of the drivers did not sustain major structural damage, just only sheet metal repairs.

I hear ya RC, I am waiting to watch it also on my 65" HD Mitsubishi !! Wink

GO #24 & #48!!

It's a matter of opinion what real circle track racing is. Let's see a dirt or asphalt modified race that goes 500 miles in the middle of the day. Oh, and I'd also like to see a feature that lasts more than 5 or 10 laps without a wreck only to start and then stop again because of another wreck 3 laps later.

No offense intended whatsoever, but I did title this thread "Daytona 500".

I'm not a big fan of Rusty (even though he drives a Dodge), but wouldn't it be ironic if he won it from the back in a back-up car in his last 500???? Eek

I'm sure we're going to see a lot more bump-drafting with the new restrictor plates. That 1/16th of an inch made a big difference. The weather is supposed to be perfect.

No offense taken RC.
Yes you did title the thread Daytona 500 and it is a NASCAR race. So I was expressing my opinions about what I think about NASCAR.

I just don't know why so many people like this type of racing.

OK. I can relate. I used to like drag racing only because of the HP and instant gratification. A buddy of mine raced dirt modifieds for a Chevy dealership up North before moving down here. He and I would go back and forth all the time about which was better. It was only after I actually looked at the whole picture that I began to appreciate roundy-round racing. Now I can't get enough of it! If I knew then what I know now I would have given NASCAR a shot instead of watercraft racing. Not that I don't like what I'm doing now though. (Disclaimer just in case the boss reads this. Razz )

Did anyone check out the water sking footage after the Bush race today? If you can water ski on it you can race skis on it! I know there has been some discussions about having a race there. Back when I raced motorcycles in the 70's I thought I saw some boat races there or at least some boats at speed when I was there.

Why doesnt the IJSBA start a race at daytona? There is a big lake in the middle of the track big enough for a closed coarse race. Maybe it could bring back personal watercraft back to ESPN like it was back in the 90's.

I think a sanctioned race at Daytona would be great. There are so many motorsport events that begin their season at Daytona.
Attending Speedweeks at Daytona is a weeklong event that hosts several motorsport events.

Rolex 24 Series
Busch Series
Arca Series
World Speedbike Association
F-1 Superbike
Nextel Cup Series
Craftsman Truck Series
and many others that have a race there.

Daytona has some nostalgia to it in terms of motorsports.

As for the drag racing thing, I agree, I like it also. But a true motorhead loves all forms of motorsports in my opinion. I can watch it all, Formula-1, Champ Car(formally CART), Grand-Am, NHRA, IHRA, World of Outlaw, ARCA, SCCA, IROC, Indy-car, ISJBA ect....

Here is a good site I use to catch up on many of the different races week to week. www.racingone.com

By the way who won yesterday !!!! Gordon Smile
It was one of the best finishes in the 47 year history of Nascar. The Hendrick organization has their stuff together. Gordons 70th win, 3rd Daytona 500.
It was funny seeing Lowe's and Home Depot trading paint in the end. Stewart had a difficult time giving up that lead he held most of the day.

What a race. Eek I can't believe how many lead changes there were in the closing laps. And they said the new restrictor plates were going to make it more boring. Man those Hendrick cars are fast. Congrats to Gordon. Once again, my boy Khane got into some kind of trouble late in the race after staying out of trouble all race and working his way to the front. I'm starting to wonder if he's jinxed! A lot of close calls in the pits. Those guys might want to practice that part of the race a little more!!! Razz

Yeah RC, that was an awesoem race. Speedvision, FOX and TNT rated it as the best finish in 47 years !!

Once bitten, I agree, I think JJ will have his hands full this year. Stewart said in an interview on nascar.com that he will not let it go past this week. It is suppose to be under the rug now...but we will see, I think once there is a "tiff" or "grudge", there will always be, especially when there is alot of adrenaline pumping during a race. I tell ya one track that will flare tempers is "Bristol".

As for Harvick, he is very volatile. and the same can be said for Stewart. Stewart had to take anger management classes during his 2002 championship season....punched a reporter, ran cars off the track.....shoved people in pit row.....ect....but, if he wanted to keep earing those millions, he has to keep his nose clean no matter how upset he is. but I will say, Harvick is a good driver and Stewart is also. They are very high-strung individuals.

I think we will see lots of little one-on-one grudges/battles this year like the old days of Cale Yarborough and Bobby Allison, Rusty Wallace and Dale Earnhardt...

That Hendrick Organization has been through alot in the past 6 mos. Rick Sr. lost his son, brother and other relatives in that place crash and he also lost his dad last year too. winning that Daytona 500 helped out with healing and provide momentum for the organization.

We need to keep our eyes on Casey Khane, Martin Truex Jr. and Carl Edwards. Those guys are gonna be tough once they get their feet wet a bit more.

Great Race on Sunday and what an exciting finish. Not a big Gordon fan but hats off to him. Hey no crying in NASCAR guys. Everybody bump drafts all the darn time in the corners, NO CRYING IN NASCAR Wink I'm a Johnson fan but hearing him whine like Rusty Wallace about how Harvick should be fired yada yada yada was pathetic. Just my opinion on that matter. Great Race!
