Sure, it may be a world record, but not an e-bay record. E-bay is home to many 100mph+ late 80's Tigersharks as well as some 115mph Seadoos. It's true, I see them daily.

I heard a little rumor that it was blown up after it hit the world record. Hopefully it will still get close to 87mph, I would be very upset if I spent 39,500 and it didn't perform!!!

87 MPH Yamaha GP1200R - Built by Riva Yamaha

Can be seen in the Yamaha Watercraft display booth at the New York National Boat Show Dec. 28 - Jan. 5

Year Make Model
2001 Yamaha GP1200R
Displacement Horsepower Top Speed
1400cc 270 hp at crankshaft 87.5 MPH

History

This watercraft was specially built by the Riva Yamaha Race Department in Pompano Beach, Florida for the specific purpose of breaking the Personal Watercraft World Speed Record. This goal was accomplished on July 5, 2002 by owner/rider Forrest Smith in Savannah Georgia at an APBA sanctioned event and the record was accepted by the Guinness Book of World Records. The craft has achieved speeds in excess of 87.5 MPH as do***ented by Watercraft World Magazine January 2002 issue. The unit is based in Pompano Beach, Florida at Riva Yamaha pending sale and shipment.

Description

Starting with a new 2001 Yamaha GP1200R, the unit was stripped down and built from the ground up with the latest racing and speed components by Riva Yamaha Factory Racing's head tuner, the legendary Tim Judge. The 1400cc/270 HP engine package features triple exhaust system, 48mm racing carbs and a total loss ignition. A tremendous weight savings was achieved by replacing all hardware with titanium fasteners and utilizing a carbon fiber hood and seat assembly. Unit is painted Factory Yamaha Racing Blue and carries the original sponsor decals from the World Record Run.

Condition
j
Unit is in mechanically NEW condition. Total engine running hours are about (3) three.
j
The owner has only ridden the craft on four occasions with the complete support of Riva Yamaha's staff.
1) Practice speed run session #1
2) Practice speed run session #2
3) Watercraft World Magazine test.
4) World Record Breaking Run-Savannah Cosmetically the unit is in excellent condition.
j
It does feature a few minor nicks and bumps that occurred during transport to several shows and Official Yamaha events in which it was displayed.

so all you 85 plus boats out there here is a real one do***ented and they spent over $65,000 to do it!!!!!!!!!!

How much weight was saved with all of Mr. Smith's personal titanium aftermarket parts?
