Do I need a Wet suit to ride in South Florida? During winter. If so, do I get shorties or complete ones. Any kind of shoes? What do you riders from Florida use? Thanks!

I don't go in the water unless it's 80 or warmer.

u should wear a wet suit or wet shorts when ever u ride. this protects your vital organs in case u are thown. u never know a fish might get forced up your a$$ and cause u major health problems. i always wear a wet suit.

LOL @ Peeps!!!

But he's right! Always go out with proper protection. Smile

I always ride with helmet, googles, gloves, full suit and boots when practicing. And I have learned the helmet is good when you try extreme riding. Oh, and don't forget the boots on your feet. You don't want a snapper getting a hold of one of your toes.

my mistake...with a pole fishing...not being thrown..i would not like to catch one of those 12 inchers. wow thats like uncool..
on a serious note my mother has been working for parkview hospital for 30 years. i asked her if a person injured because they were not wearing proper wet suit protection and needed bung surgery or in the case of a female.would your insurance company pay for your hospital bill..her answer was u better check with insurance policys because if they say wear it and u aint u aint covered and u r up $hits creek with out a paddle..she also said she has seen a few people hurt very seriously down their. even seen a 24 year old walking around know with a bag on his side because his internals workings were distroyed by water impact. its your choice thats way we live in usa. peace Wink

I live in Tampa and was thinking of going out today (Tues) but will wait for a warmer day (H2O temp 65, air 75). But, it's seems to cold for me. If I were to go, I'd be wearing a shorty, some sort of water shoe, and usually wear riding gloves cut at the knuckles. I do all this for comfort and none of it for protecting my pooter hole from the fishies.

Yes, Peeps, it’s sunny and 75 and to cold for riding. The only way I’d go out in chilly weather like this is if we went to an area where the water temperature is warmer like the top of Tampa Bay. Down hear we ride on warm/hot sunny days; never have to worry about getting our skis thrashed on the rocks, or “winterizing” them. In fact, we ride them onto the beach … cause that’s where the party is and for a better look at all the topless babes. I’ll go out a couple of time this winter but will mostly wait till April when the water warms into the 80’s.

You have got to be kidding me. 75 degree air temp. and thats too cold? If it were even 65 here consistently I'd go riding a couple times a week no matter how cold the water is. It hit 65 this weekend but I didn't want to de-winterize and then winterize again in one day, so I held off on riding.

What kind of protection do you need? I have a stock super jet that goes about 42 mph.....Would you need protection for that kind of speed? Thanks.

any speed any situation u need protection. i think jet pilot makes great product. i wore mine every weekend and still looks like new. u could just wear wet shorts in fl its probly to hot for full suit. u might want to concider a rpi jet pilot impact vest.peace

Well perhaps to clarify... atlantic or gulf?

In recent news a pair of kids just north of tampa went out, way out, and had engine problems and froze to death.

Id have to say that each there own preference/tolorence, if you have to ask the question then the answer is you better do so, at the very least it will make for 100x more enjoyable experience.

The atlantic is much more tolorable during the cooler months... actually the atlantic can be about 30 degrees warmer than the gulf 50 degrees gulf vs 80 degrees atlantic.

In the above unfortunate accident, never go further than a arms reach of help (meaning, if by self dont go out of shores reach, or without at least TWO singnaling devices -flares, cell phone *service that works!, or even a VHF radio!!!)

Thanks, amoney. That's good advice! I'll be mainly skiing in lakes, so hopefully it'll be a bit safer.
