It seems as though the media, forums and magazines are more excited and happier with the 4-TEC than the other 4 strokes, with Honda a close second, i can understand the hype about the Honda, but the 4-Tec is by far creating the most interest, great hull, smooth powerfull engine, etc, etc -- Why is the FX140 not up with the 4-TEC.

Come on guys, some honest and serious feedback, put on your unbiased caps ????

Since when did anybody seriously take the the media's opinion for fact......ok people do it all the time but that doesn't mean we should. **** we all know how the media contorts things.

That said here is my opinion. The 4 tec looks to be the best at what its designed for. Cruising and towing. It has an awesome design for newbies or older people who wanna put around. Consider it the minivan/suv of the pwc world. Ya know, kinda overkill. Like having 4 wheel drive to go to the grocery store. Why do I need footwells to keep me dry and 50 gals of storage on a ski? Sheesh by a boat. Making a ski practical is kind of a oxymoron. Your supposed to get wet, your supposed to fall off and have a **** of a good time doing it. People are using these things to replace those blow up floating chairs that have the little cup holder. Whatever.....boring.

To sum it up none of the beasts are all that hot in my mind. The only light I see at the end of the tunnel is when they drop these power plants in the smaller gp/xp type hulls. Then we'll have something to talk about.

Ok, but if I had to pick one it wouldn't be the 4tec. I mean look at it.....It would look great behind your Aztec.

We all need to go back to blasters and sj's. Big Grin

Amen Ryan! Why is it that street bikes and dirt bikes get faster and lighter every year and the d*mn ski's get heavier and heavier. I consider my gpr to be an overweight pig so there is no way I am going up another 100 pounds. I pray that some day the lighter/smaller hulls will come back. Please god..please!!!

Great reply back '99 - nothing like shooting from the hip, had a good laugh at your reply, and the funny thing is, you are right. Yep, they all seem to be going overboard with all the extras.

The reason i posted the question is because i was hoping that the FX140 would blow them all away and not the 4-TEC, thanks for your unbiased opinion, it does look like a good ski, time will only tell

The FX140 is suffering from one major flaw, displacement. There is no replacement for displacement. 999cc's vs 1500cc's. Torque is what moves a heavy object. More cc's more torque. The R1 motorcycle is fast. The Gsxr is faster and quicker. Come on Yamaha, make the engine bigger to handle the big ski. Any speed parts that you can put on the Yamaha will also be available (eventually) for the other brand ski's.
Motor in FX140 needs to be bigger to compete.

"It would look great behind your Aztec" Ha! how funny was that? Te he he.

Anyways raidrracer I think you might be right, The FX140 will have to be a tad bigger to be able to compete. But for many of us, there is more to chillin on the waves than shear speed. Its not all about speed. Have you seen this machine? It looks great, it will probabaly handle great, its quiet, good on gas and most importantly...it WILL be FUN!!

The FX140 is almost fit enough to be pulled by a Dodge Viper.

I pull mine with a PT Cruizer. Is that close to a Viper?

its sad but true, "but he who pays the mag the most money, gets the best review"
seadoo tookabig hit with the 951 powerplant so they need to make up for it somehow . the xp is old news and the rx was a flop for a performance boat compared to what they thought it was going to be .
honda is relying on their "name" and "quality" to sell their boat .
yamaha , is just sitting back saying we have a great product and it will prove itself like our other products do . thats my thoughts.....

This is what I have read on the 4tec engineering:

Designed by an Engine engineer from Porsche, whole NEW power plant, whole new closed-loop cooloing system, 10 vane stainless pump

The Honda WITH THE TURBO is still slower out of the hole and edges out the 4tec top-end

The Yamaha and Non-Turbo Honda are both slower in comparison, so don't get the big write-ups and neither has the Off-Power Assisted Steering (OPAS)

Hope that helps ---Phil Big Grin Big Grin

Just a thought; I wonder what the possibilities would be if Honda did something like a varible transmission with thier ski, kind of like what they did with the Civic a few years back; you could keep the engine in the high part of the powerband and get the most to the impeller. I know, more parts to break, but since when has breaking parts kept us off of our skis?

If I had the money right now, I'd be buying a double trailer and a FX140 to go with my GPR.

Smitty:

Funny you should say that. Night before last I went with my brother-in-law to Lebard and Underwood Honda/Yamaha to look at the new bike he was getting. I purchased a new FX-140 from them a couple weeks ago. Well, they have a brand new GP1200R sitting there on the showroom floor. I told him if I had the money, I'd by a double trailer and get that GP1200R. Big Grin
