BE CAREFUL,

Even if your views posted are against the petition, they might be taking a count only and not reading the contents of same. It would serve our purposes better to write another petition in our favor and submit that to the superintendent independent of this one. I truly do not think ANYONE is going to sit there and read everyone of these responses. If you read this pettition in detail, or actually not even, it is absolutelly opposing the use of PWC in the area and even if your comments are against the petition you are signing it, therefore agreeing with it. When you sign a petition it means you are PRO not CON and this site doesn't give you the option to agree or disagree!!!!

BE CAREFUL!!!

End Jet Ski Pollution at Fire Island!
Attention: Superintendent Constantine Dillon,
Fire Island National Seashore

I am writing to you because I care about our national parks.

I would like to let you know that I am in full support of a complete BAN on
the use of personal watercraft (PWCs) at Fire Island National Seashore.
PWCs pollute the air and the water; they harass wildlife and are a nuisance
to park visitors. They simply do not belong in our national park waters.
Removing them is essential if we are "to protect national park resources
unimpaired," as mandated in the Organic Act.

Please prohibit the use of personal watercraft at Fire Island National
Seashore.

Thank you for considering my views. Please update me on any new
developments in regards to this issue.

Sincerely,
The Undersigned

Well in that case I'll just fire up my loud, smoky, gas guzzling 35' foot diesel boat and putt around YOUR pristine island for hours on end. Would you like that? I'm not going to start a flame war over this but I will say this. There are countless things in this world that are extremely harmful on the environment, and you know what? PWC's are not as bad as most people make them out to be. Times are changing with the newer environmental friendly 4 strokes and not many people are noticing except for the community of people who ride and enjoy PWC’s. And for the 2 stokes sake, do you really believe that my immense diesel boat is cleaner than my Yamaha XL1200? Stop kidding yourself because let me kill the suspense…its not. And as for harassing wildlife and being a nuisance to park visitors I think you are very wrong. I’ve yet to see any “children” in my neck of the woods starting trouble and if I did I would be the first guy to give these “bad teenagers”. a pep talk and set em’ straight. Don’t stereotype the PWC community over a few punks here and there starting trouble. The majority of us adults ride responsibly and are out on our PWC’s to have a good time and enjoy beautiful places like Fire Island and Cape Cod National Sea Shore as long as you don’t get caught up in the smoggy haze from the hundreds of lobster boats. You can’t solve anything by sweeping our problems under the carpet, we need solutions… How about cleaner emissions and strict guidelines that must be MET and ADAPT on ALL of our bodies of water? In that case everyone would benefit except for giant corporations like ExxonMobil and George W. Bush’s back pocket, but that’s a different story.

I’m getting side tracked here; all I’m saying is this… PWC’s are not the problem.
