Recently I had a Riva Stage 1 kit installed on my 2007 Ultra 250. Overall I am very pleased, I have to play with the sponsons a bit to get them dialed in. Howwever, in the process of installing the kit it was discovered that I had about 12 ounces of oil in my inter cooler! After doing a little investigation, I was informed that the engine develops so much crankcase pressure, there is no where for the vapors (combination gas,oil and water)to go and the inter cooler offers the point of least resistance. I asked my local dealer about the issue, they didn't know anything about it and they didn't have any ideas about correcting it either. They suggested I write to Kawasaki; I work for a Dealership, writing to a manufacturer is a waste of time. The point is, I would have never known about the oil had the stage 1 kit not been installed. I had noticed a drop in performance, but really had no ideas about how to improve it. My opinion is that this is clearly a design issue, but I doubt that Kawasaki is going to step up and do anything about it.
There is a crankcase ventilation kit available from R&D which is probably what I will have to do. Is the inter cooler is contaminated to the point it has to be replaced, or will just getting the oil out be sufficient? Has anyone else experienced this problem? I was told that if the oil level was checked after running, I would probably find dipstick to read .5 quart overfull. The existing breather is not sufficient to accomodate the output of the engine. 2007 Kawasaki Ultra 250X Riva Stage 1 Kit |
