Is there such a thing? I envision a tool with "claws" or "hooks" that can reach under my heavy FX140 to remove weeds. My arms are not long enough.

Thanks
Chuck

1st remove/discontect the leash, and then jump in and get your hands dirty... be sure to clean all those weed out... your not going to go very fast with all of that wraped around the prop.

Get a underwater weedeater. Or use some roundup in your pump. haha
shut your machine down,
Man you gotta get in the water and reach your arm under your ski and pull the weeds out.
Remember if you get weeds in your pump, its usually no prob. Its the rocks that will cost you $$$.

I understand getting in the water, and I am fine with that, but man, I can't reach the grate.

How can you not reach the grate? Go underwater if you have to. Takes only a few minutes. Or worst case, flip the ski and clean it out.

DUDE how short arm your arms!!! (just kidding)

seriously... the intake grate is half way on the bottom... with your sholder against the side of the ski (towards the rear... remember where the grate is positioned -otherwise you will be reaching to the otherside and not locating the grate)... ok with your shoulder against the side and your inposition where the grate would be... slide your hand (get your brains outta the gutter here for christ sakes) as I was saying, slide your hands down and accross the underside of the belly... and your hand should find the grate... I reallize these skis are "whales" but its still reachable... take note while ashore on the trailor where the alignment of the grate is to the side of the ski... (I would not recommend turning the ski upside down or on its side because the engine compartment will FILL with water... and thats even worse!)

Actually, my arms are pretty long. I am 6'2" and I have 36" arms. I really appreciate your help, but you guys must not have a big ski like FX140. Its' hull is so wide there is no way for me to reach it without going completely underwater or beaching it and turning it on its' side..which is also hard because it weighs 800 lbs. My small wife and our guests could never do it. It just seems like a "claw" coul dreach under and get the most of it out. Our Indiana lakes are just so weedy.
Thanks

didn't know you had a FX140. I remember seeing something in a catalog about doing this from your seat and not getting wet. Don't know how it worked and couldn't figure it out from the picture either. Overton's or some other catalog company sold the thing. This was from a few years ago, just checked the Overton's site and it is not there. If I find it will post it.

What does the owners manual say to do? Get in the water and just under?

A friend has a Yamaha Jet Boat and asked him what he does. He said they can be accessed from inside the boat by lifting covers at the intakes! I thought that was pretty trick.

from the inside... that is neat... but wont it flood?

perhaps the fx140 is a bigger "whale"... also taking into acount the depth... [srug] dont know what to tell you... if you cant reach it by hand... its going to be an awfully big tool to carry around inorder to reach under there.

just checking the specs for the FX140...

width is 48.4" inches... so 36" lenght arms is more than enough to reach the grate... try it again... head above water against the side... and reach... its there.

line up with the sponson... the first half portion... maybe start from the ride plate and feel your way forward.

911, Practice, practice, practice. Just make sure the motor is off and cant be started when your diging the weeds out.
