Anybody in a 2 to 3 hr drive to Belton Tx. should go check out the races today at Lake Belton. Avery Williams is in town (Austin) and is going to race today. Has his bullet prepped GPR and should be fun watching his ski go around the large super course. I get to personaly check out the handling package for my GPR. Looks like a pretty good package. Now if only Avery keeps his promise to let me ride his ski after the races. Oh yeah, I told him that Joe would take it easy on him in the race (ha,ha). Speaking of the fossil rocket, I installed 3* reducer nozzle and cone for the race and the results are that the ski corners better and doesn't bounce near as much. Top speed is down abut 4 MPH. but handles much better in the chop and turn part of the course. The rocket came out of the first lap in 2nd ( due to Joe getting off course for a second) Younts got the lead and the two stayed 1,2 till Joe came in to change to his partner in the team race. Anyway todays event should be fun to watch with Avery probably lapping everyone once maybe 2 times. More later. rp

I was there yesterday, RP. Your ski looked good. No where near the porpoising of the other GPRs out there. Looks like a nice setup and Joe is one **** of a racer.
I was bummed to see Andy Wise wasn't running his STXR this time. But he and Lynn did well on the Doos anyway it seems. Good luck on todays races. Also, nice to finally meet you Salty. Wish I had time to hang around longer and see you run. Please post some results from todays Ironman races. |

Thanks Jarrett, I'm still tinkering but the rocket seems to be at a more consistant speed now. It doesn't loose speed as much in the chop but it is down about 4 to 5 mph in the smooth straights. Time to do some more experimenting. Avery won the race but it was a little more interesting than we thought. He had to stop for fuel and Younts past him with 3 or 4 laps to go. But Avery caught him on the next to last lap and won. Younts was second, Hall was third, Wise was fourth, Joe was fifth. Joe was running 3rd for the first half of the race but got passed in the turns by hall. It stayed that way till right before the finish when Joe got pushed inside a bouy by a lap rider and missed a bouy and that is when Andy got by him. Anyway it was fun seeing everybody and that is a nice lake with hardly any boat traffic. Next time your at the races ask any of the Austin bunch who is fossil and come by and meet me in person and you might see I'm not such a bad guy. rp

I cant speek for the others but I know for sure what Avery and I have in our ski's. Avery's skis have about 30 - 35 k in them. My ski has a 41cc head and riva stinger pipe with a solas 13/20 impros prop, stock ride plate, 3* nozzle and cone, blueprinted pump/WPP, stock carbs, pro-tec valve controller, rev-limiter, and a 25 dollar seat I bought from Avery. Right now I have about $2,000 on it. I plan on having bullett install the handling package at the world finals. So there will be more cost. I know that Younts has spent some on his ski, Pipes etc.,I don't know about Hall and pretty sure Andy tinkers with his ski some because that I understand, is what he does for a living. When it comes to racing, I don't think money is a issue. The ski with the most money and time put into it will probably be the one winning the most and that is the objective of racing. Every time you put that ski on the starting line you run the risk of something breaking and costing a lot of money. Mario have you put that ski in the water yet? Let me know about the bullett handling package. rp

Bobby Hall rides a stock 2000 XPL unless he may have barrowed another boat from someone. Maybe Andy's back up, a 2000 XPL that has a funny looking Green hood. If so than all that has is rejetted carbs,a Rossier Head and Pipe, and prop.
RP, just the nozzle, cone and stock ride plate costed 4-5mph ???? Susan, Did you race ? Jeff [ 07-29-2002: Message edited by: JETSKIDADDY ] |

No RP ski is not on the water yet, the CDI is out to Advent for reprogramming with a couple of custom curves, but when that's back it will be get wet time. I promise a full report on the Bullett kit as soon as possible, I hope my bud's 2001 will also be back together so I can remind myself of the original handling and do a direct A/B
Did you get to ride Avery's boat? How about an account of that? I'm thinking you did since you already decided to have the Bullett boys install it in October. [ 07-29-2002: Message edited by: gp12trpl ] |

Jeff, yes. After installing the Xl, 3* nozzle and cone and the stock plate, we went out friday morning and did some GPS runs and were only getting 64.5, 4 to 5 mph slower than before the bryan race. I was getting 69/70 right before bryan. But the ski stays hooked up better in the choppy part of the course. I'm not sure if I have the best combo yet. So have some more testing with all the different combinations/parts/props I have. We ran the 13/20 solas/impros at Belton and that has been the slowest of the 3 props I have. I think were getting close to finding a good package for the single pipe gpr in racing conditions. I already know what works for drag/ lake racing because that is all I ever did before. The bottom line this weekend was we had less top speed but less bounce in the chop/wash. I have learned a lot about the difference between a fast ski and one that will maintain that speed on a course with a lot of skis and chop/wash. Its nice to have challenges. Mario, no I didn't. Avery needs to tear down the motor for checkup, thinks he was only running on 2 cylinders at the end of the race. He's going to be in town for awhile and said I could probably ride it at the cove this Sunday when we're all at the lake. I decided after taking a close look at the system installed on his ski and talking with Avery. rp

rp, you're learning what Bill O. has been preaching for years over on r.s.js -- average top speed for the conditions . . this is one reason the xp has done so well until other boats with a lot more hp have the hull work done.
You're right that time into a boat is very important . . but it's the cost of all the parts you have to try to find the right ones that can kill ya. Paying for people who can demostrate results is worth it (proven results, not promises). Best wishes with the hull mods. dc (Now at week 13 with a bone stock GPR in the shop over 16 months of ownership . . gave up counting the weeks where it ran like crap) |

Anyone care to bet how many more laps Avery had in that ski before he would be bone dry? He pulled a pit stop for probably 3 gallons of gas 3/4 of the way through the race and then had to boogy to run down Younts again.. He did so with 2 laps left.. another 2 laps he would have probably been floating. That GPR did scream though. I would have liked to see him compete against them on a different machine just to see them all duke it out in closer proximity.
Did anyone notice who started dead last? Andy Wise and Bobby Hall both came from the last 2 positions to right at the top.. Pretty incredible riding. For some reason both the STXR & the XP/L totally bawged on the line and the pack was gone before they got to leave out.. I got the entire race on tape and may convert to mpeg if anyone wants it.. I had a great time in Belton and it was nice meeting a number of you.. See you in Bryan! David |

Rajun I would love to see that video clip.. Would really be interested in how the racing seen is down in Texas. It would need to go to pat.molettieri@verizon.net .
Thanks. |
