how fresh is the gas?
Try removing the plug kick it over to clear it out be careful to not ignite the fuel vapors coming out. reinstall fresh plug and try again let us know how you make out.

For trouble starts with waverunners... I placed a few drops 2-4 (I mean DROPS, NOT fill'er up) into the cylinder... the fuel vapor that remain in the cylinder fire the first time... and then studder the next few strokes... just enough to draw the fuel through the carbs and continue on its own natural coarse.

If you do not get any what so ever kick over by place a small amount of fuel as described above... perhaps it is a electrical problem... check for spark (be carefull that can hurt if imprperly done).

Again this is what I do on hard start waverunners (typically ones that have not been started in a while).

when i bought the motorcycle, the previous owner started it with 2 kicks. i started it twice according to the instructions from yamaha, and it ain't easy! i norrowed it down to the spark. i smell gas coming out of the pipe. there is a new plug in it. i had to take the tank off to replace the plug. what a pain. i have an appointment with the dealer on the 16th. i will ride my gpr till then.

Get a manual out and check the valves. If they are tight it will NEVER start. I bet that is the case given the year of the bike. Check them out, I bet that is the issue. The dealer will probably rape you to get this done. Do it yourself.

I have an 03 450F for sale [Smile]

Under 10 hrs, starts first kick everytime. [Smile]

pull the plug and put the wire on it, hold it agianst the block with something insulated, and have someone kick over a few times, does it spark? if not see if its got pionts and clean and gap them, hook an ohm meter to the pionts and open close to make sure its not shorting out, if that doesnt do it then find out what the resistence of the coil is and check it. check the fuse link if equipt. got the service manual? will give you the specs you need. will save a pretty penny doing it yourself. good luck [Big Grin]

you gotta follow the start procedure exactly - and DO NOT touch the throttle, if you touch the throttle it won't start

the following is for a different bike - but the procedure is the same

http://www.thumpertalk.com/bike/yamahawr400/Technical/Starting_tips/starting_tips.html

if the previous owner started it with 2 kicks the bike is probably fine, you just gotta get the hang of it, try the procedure exactly as outlined in the above link

if you wanna test the spark disconnect the plug wire and test it using a 2nd spark plug as described in the above post
