i knew a lot of guys running 12-14psi with oem bottom ends in 5.0's and the newer modular motor. they will take 400hp abuse for some time, but remember its only a 2 bolt main, its just like running a triple pipe boat without a welded crank. slick it and drop the clutch when the tree drops, thats the test.

somebady tell me, has ford improved on these coffe can flex bodies so they stay on the road over 100mph, i know going back to as late as 96-97 they were a handful to try to keep on the road at those speeds. pre 94's forget about it, hope there isnt any side winds blowin....easy 2 k in suspension mods to make it comfortable at post 100mph speeds.

as full said, it is a FORD. the more i see and talk to new ford owners...well, i dont hear too many positive comments on their products. GM should gobble them up in the future....heck, if they can accure slaabs they should be able to end the Found On Road Dead syndrom.

I don't know about all the negative Ford comments, but I like mine just fine. I will probably keep it until about 2007 or 2008 and then hop into a newer Lightning.

As for going 100+ it feels better at 135 than it does at 55.

I do dig the new Stangs though. I especially like the lights in the grill

My family has owned many Fords. A friend had an old '91 explorer last 270,000 miles without one problem ever on it!!! My explorer has 140,000 miles and knock on wood still running strong. My parents have also owned Fords that lasted almost 200,000 miles. I'd say that is pretty reliable. All of the Fords we've own have been relatively problem free until the end.

sky, reliability and performance is two seperate catagories....but you seem to be a lucky one,

here is our luck:

1998 explorer 93k miles, replaced cv joints twice, waterpump failed twice, once in warranty once out and the dealer wouldnt replace the second because it was 1000 miles out of warranty, door assemble broke twice on driver side door, dealer wouldnt repair under warranty, said it was normal wear??!??. truck has been making a mechanical clunk in front end for 50k, dealer still hasent been able to find or diagnose. seat belt mechanism broke outside warranty. truck has intermitant 'No start" issue for past 35k. it will just crank and crank and crank. dealer couldnt determin. this last issue was the demise of the explorer for my wife. bought a 03' envoy and havent had a problem.

1999 f-250 powerstroke with "mystical" misfire that the dealer gave up on. replaced 2 injectors, been to the dealer about 12 times in the past 1 1/2 years. talk about a waiste of time. this seems to be a common issue ford will not acknowledge yet there are many 1999 powerstrokes with the same problem, POOR INJECTOR DESIGN that international wont even look at because its FORDS parts that FORD mechanics cant fix. to bad ford engineers had to booger up a good motor! i wont even bother speaking about the transmission that ford claims is 100% normal and the auto locking hubs that wont disengage 1/2 the time, oh yeah i shouldnt forget about the bad ball joints as well that are normal maintenance @ 45K...

the only good one so far is the 1995 f-350 460 gas truck. it has been trouble free from day one. in the same token, it has only gone to the dealer for oil and filters....then again this truck sites in my driveway and waites to be used, it only has 59k on the odometer.

other then that, the fords here have been great! I used to swear only to buy FORD trucks. NO more, next one is back to GM. at least the GM's seem not to be rust buckets like the late 80's garbage they produced.

Perhaps even more exciting, Ford showed the new Shelby Cobra at the Detriot Auto Show. It looks like the offspring of an original Shelby Cobra roadster and the '05 Mustang. Expected to sell for between $70,000-$80,000 if it goes into production (which looks likely).

Craig, can you post a link to the pic of that Cobra?
Up untill last summer I owned a 68 mustang with a BOSS 302 -I put it in- for over 18 years. I believe in the first 10 years I owned it I removed and reinstalled every bolt on that car. It was a fun and fast car. But I got older and liked the smooth ride with a/c blowing cold air of a new ride. Never driving it much I sold it to a friend of mine that is going through it piece by piece.

Slim beat me to the punch on the link. Man does that car look gorgeous. I don't see them having any problem selling every one they build if they put it into production.

Just remember individuals are all entitled to their opinions and preferences. As far as the 2005 chassis is concerned its based off the DEW98 platform (lincoln ls). As a Ford builder we strive and respect the competition we get from GM, their accomplishments actually become our accomplishments and make us better and vice versa. Sure a Fox Mustang wont handle like an 05 or like a c5 corvette, its old tech, never was intended to run superspeedways or curves at 140 plus . if you want that buy a BMW or lingenfelter vette or whatever you fancy. if you looking for a car that an average class american can afford and hop up, the gt mustang was / is it. if you dont like it dont buy it. freedom of choice is one benefit of a free market economy.
