I was wondering if anybody has upgraded their axles. I carry more weight then my axle is rated for. Not by much only about 100 lbs but I've noticed that the axle is slighty bent. Instead of replacing my trailer I was wondering if anybody knows of a place that is close to Kansas City to buy a new axle or a place that would ship it for a reasonable rate. Thanks for any leads. Well I have done a few, but I am not in the US so can't really give you specific info.

I recently changed the axle on my double trailer, GPR and SJ. Ther old owner of the trailer had decreased the width of the trailer and hance modified the axle that was on it. They had cut the axle and slid it into some RHS, which is fine but you can't gaurantee the axle is straigth and square.
So I replaced it with a SOLID length axle, 40mm square. There is a company here which makes these axles in various lengths so I found a distributor near me and had them order. I suspect it will be the same near you.
Find a trailer or caravan place, they are bound to have a supplier who does axles in various lengths. Make sure the axle is solid and is all the one piece, ie not axle stubs welded onto the end of some square section. You shouldn't have any problems finding one.

Never argue with an idiot! They will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

a friend of mine has 2 gpr's on a karavan trailer and had problems with to much weight, he went to a tractor trailor supply, they installed a new heavier rated axle for 225.00. only problem was it wasnt galvanized. who cares about a little rust as long as it gets you to the water. good luck.

If you can, upgrade to a torsion axle. Rides smoother and less maintenance problems down the road.

Thx for the advice RX951. I have a follow up question. Do you know where to find this type of axle?? Towed my rides to the lake this weekend and noticed the wheels are bowing out even further. Really need to do some work on the trailer over the winter. Could you e-mail me any website links you may have. billsawyer57@hotmail.com.

Thanks
