03' STX-R Way Fast for me!

The only thing that concerns me is that it is a 2 stroke are these on the way out? Excuse my ignorance but what exactly is the difference between a 2-4 stroke engine? I thought this whould be a good place to ask And it's also carburated and not fuel injected this is on it's way out aswell isn't it?
