Okay gang here's a question for ya, when we go camping there is a couple of us that have to take 2 rigs cause we have 5th wheels and in the great state of oregon you cant haul doubles.
now I'm pretty handy with a welder, just trying to come up with a simple solution as to haul both skis and trailer. 1 ski 04 gp1300r other ski 02 gtxdi, truck 3/4 ton ford overloaded to haul heavy. Any ideas would much appreciated. Hate to give up 5th wheel due to the room we have in it vs a cab over camper. 04gp13 02 seadoo gtxdi 99gp1200 wildest looking gp this side of the miss, went by by. |

I've had the same question. With a 5er, your options are limited as most won't take much as far as weight welded on to the back end. The only answer I've come up with is either a toy hauler, or in my case a conventional travel trailer with a jettrax set up. Other than that, I don't know what you'd do. By the way, since Oregon allows triples commercialy, I have to wonder why they don't allow doubles with a 5th wheel. Our two states are screwed up.

DB, a couple of us who like to try a come up with new ideas have contimplated trying to use a hydraulics system that would raise and lower the crafts down over the front of the truck, without the use of the trailer, we think we may have a way, just have to get it all pencilled out and determine all the weight factors. The other thought is adding a extra axle to my 5th wheel and running them up the back on a track system at a angle, or just scrap the whole idea and sell the 5thwheel and get cab over, camper
Thanks for the reply as well. 04gp13 02 seadoo gtxdi 99gp1200 wildest looking gp this side of the miss, went by by. |

I like your idea...every once in a while you see a 5th wheel truck/trailer with a fairly good sized boat over the cab. My concern would be the weight up that high. I have a good friend that lives in Waldport, Or. that built a rack to slide two skis into the back of his one ton. He said the weight up that high made it sway to the point he put adjustable shocks on and sets them to the hardest setting when running with the skis. I just bought a jettrax (used) and haven't had a chance to see how it does. I do have air bags and the adjustable shocks in case. Just for fun, take a look at the jettrax web site...might give you some ideas as to how they did it. You'd have to come up with something able to lower the skis quite a bit further, but the same priciple could apply. I'd get a toy hauler 5th wheel before I went to the cab over. The $ per square foot in a cabover is about as high as you can get in an RV. That said they are very handy, and the new ones are very nice.
As far as riding up here, we have Lake Stevens about 15 minutes away, Lake Goodwin, the Snohomish river (didn't like), Lake Samamish and Lake Washington. The water on the last two can get big. I haven't dropped into the Sound yet, not sure if I will. Too cold. There are several more lakes not too far away, but those are the main ones. '99 XL 1200 Ltd., sealed pump, wave eaters, solas. |

Coop, thanks for the reply. Havent been on in a day or so. I think its all about the geometry which I can hardly spell
I'd like to come up and possibly ride in one of those 2 lakes, were always looking for new places to ride, is there any campsites around the area, not to change the subject just curious. 04gp13 02 seadoo gtxdi 99gp1200 wildest looking gp this side of the miss, went by by. |

Hollywood I am sure you are aware but you will definitely want to watch your weights. If you ever got into an accident and whether it was your fault or not and they notice you are overloaded you will be fined and held responsible for your own repairs. It is not worth trying to figure out how to weld a Jettrax system onto the bed of your truck or even above the cab in order to carry your toys around. You will be well over your GCWR unless of course you are using an F450 or something greater than that like and F650. You might want to look into some sort of toyhauler especially if you want to travel legally.

Hollywood, by far the most popular lake is Lake Samamish which is about 15 miles east of Seattle. There is a state park (Lake Samamish State Park) at the south end that has campsites, but it's a urban park. I've never stayed there as it's a day trip for us. The boat launch is at the park and gets downright busy on a nice day since it's the only public launch on the lake. Some days a guy could just go there and watch for some fun...the junk people pull at the boat launch could get ya some money for the video. The lake is about 9 miles long, maybe 3/4 mile wide, warm with lots of boats on nice days. Like I said, the water can get pretty big for a lake. Lake Washington is huge (26 miles by 1+ mile), but is very urban and no campsites that I know of. It's cool to tour. You can go from the University of Washington on the ship canal (Montlake Cut more technically) to Kirkland for lunch, swing by Bill Gate's place...you know all that stuff. Again, big water on a busy hot afternoon and the water never really warms up.
There is also a campground at Lake Goodwin which is also a state park called Whenburg (prob'ly not spelled right) State Park. The camping isn't what I'd call great and the lake is small compared to the others, but less crowded during the week. On weekends prepare for a lot of people. The lake is about an hour north of Seattle. For the distance you'd be coming, I'd do Samamish over Goodwin. Much more to do, and much more water. Now, if you don't mind traveling the ultimate spot in my book is a place called Steamboat Rock State Park on Banks lake in Eastern Washington. Big lake, warm (hot) weather, and a park that is second to none (MHO) for watersports. Some will say Lincoln Rock, or Vantage on the Columbia, but I prefer Banks.
