STX-R is a great CC ski. I rode one in three races this year. I also used one to tow a tube with my kids. Not the fastest ski out there, but in stock trim it will holeshot just about anything out there. If you are looking for just top end GPR is the way to go. GPR is more comfortable to ride in most conditions. 04' & 03'STX-R seem to be identical. A dealer in Harrisburg Pa. has a very good price on an 03'-check out E-Bay.

If you are going racing the STXR is the boat to have.......add a UMI steering, Beach House sponsons and you can be very competitive in stock and even in limited class against piped boats!! I know it's hard to believe.....I know I didnt until I owned one.

Do not do a bunch of wave jumping on the STXR. Plan your landings softly!!!

2002 STXRs had problems because the sole front motor mount was hittinh the hull on big jumps receptions and hard core rough water ride.
Kawi Europe recalled them, Kawi S did't.
Now the BEST CC boat EVER is, indeed the STXR.

How did they change the 2002, versus the 2003/4? Did they release a kit to upgrade it?

Kawi Europe released a kit for all the 2002s THEY sold, IE : they're not available anymore, even there.
But basically it's a metal plate that protects the hull where the block hits it.
On the 2003s they also monted a stronger mount.
The 2003s have a better pump core and the 2004s have a bigger tank.

I love the STX-R, the only problem I have with it, it "forces" me to seat down, the handlebars are too low for me.
I am 6' 190lbs, if you are under 5'6", it will be perfect for you.
