a group of us in florida are talking about making a drag racing series here in florida. all of us are closed course racers either current or in the past, so i thought i would come to the board of the go fast guys and try to get your opinions.
first we need to set up the class structure and make the rules. what i would like is some input on the classes below and some ideas on rules. nothing is set in stone yet ski classes 810 cc amatuer and pro unlimited pro runabout classes 820 cc's amateur and pro 1150 cc's amateur and pro 1350 cc'c amatuer and pro 1600 cc's amatuer and pro unlimited 2 seater and unlimted 3 seater pro some of the reasons for the cc limits was to allow the use of older 701 and 800 cc motors 1150 cc is for older 1100's and smaller 4 strokes 1350 cc's is for the two stroke big bores to go at it without being up against the larger 4 strokes with turbos or superchargers. 1600 cc's is for the big 4 strokes the unilimted classes will be just that pretty much run what you brung in 2 or 3 seat configuration. this would allow for extensive hull mods and larger displacement engines in smaller boats ie: 951 in a x4 hull. you will need to maintain the stock topdeck appearance. current to similar mod rules. this is a first step to something possibly very big. we are currently looking for sponsors, we hope to go outside the industry with new companys. if you have anyone interested please contact me, i will be sure and get them a prospectus. as for the rules, we feel it might be easier to adapt most of the current rules from closed course racing over. what i mean is the allowance of certain features added to the race boat. we will not be implementing a stock and limited category. what is the point of drag racing to stock gp 1200's. we want it to be a like current drag racing, you win because of your ability to tune and build better than the next person. thanks lee |

That sounds like a great idea. Especiall the rule about the different cc class. I have 1052CC three seater. Kind of hard to compete.

I think that there should also be some races were the best of the classes go against, kind of like a superbowl.

I'd suggest a "run what you brung" class. Anything goes, no rules. The fastest ski wins - period.

I'm hip. There is TONS of hardwre out there, and no where to race it. I bet the 'ol GP, Xi, SL, and X4 hull would have a heyday, with some 2500cc power shoehorned in. Ever street-raced a pinto with a smallblock chevy? Nothing quite like it. Mark http://www.hydrotoys.com 2000 GP1500R 4tecSC S3 2002 GP1500R CF 4tecSC Turbo 2004 Polaris MSX 4tecSC S3 2002 Octane |

that's the unlimited lee mentioned isn't it?...unless maybe lee edited that part in after your suggestion.. i love the idea..would be very cool... instead of 1350 , how about 1390 for the big two strokes since some are out there? Too unfair? dav_dman@yahoo.com, used 04 rxp and B1 on the xmas list. 04Honda F12X at home, 02 in stpete, both boosted a bit. 97 venture1200 for sale soon. |

Displacement sould be limited only by the platform.
Who inspects the boats. I would not want to tear every boat down to verify displacement. If you can build a hand grenade that lasts only a few runs it is you who has to pay the price. On the other hand if you can safely get more displacement than the next guy why not. It's all good we all blow up(me more than most) but we all want to go faster. If I was near I would be there in a flash with by slow old GP1200 Factory Piped,working on speed learning as I go $$$$$$$$$ Could not beat the RXP so much work to do. Without inspecting all the boats how do you know displacement? How about a horsepower class and dino the boats to sort out classes |

|
Better make the 1600 cc open to any 2 strokes also, we might be surprised at what the future holds for the cc limits on the dirty old 2 stroke
Other than that, great ideas... |
||||
|
sorry for the delay in posting still w/o power down here.
to answer your questions on 2 strokes and 1600 cc class. there should not be any reason you can't run a smaller cc boat in a larger class. ie if you want to run your gp1200 up against a rxp that would be fine. it just does not seem fair. as i stated earlier nothing is set in reguards to the rule book or class structure. we just need to start somewhere. if enough people want a paticular class, we will accomodate it. keep the info coming, we are still looking for more sponsors. if we don't get enough sponsorship it will not happen, atleast from us. lee |

If anyone is serious about this
I would suggest they contact the APBA. You would need their sanctioning if for no other reason than for insurance. |
||||
|
for the classes i think it would be easyer to have 2 cylinder three cylinder
and so on based on what brand no cc limit just the original size puts it in the class that way no need to check capacity after an event no triple pipes in amature and no forced induction in amature just some ideas kev |
||||
|
Doesnt the APBA already have a drag race event?
