I was thinking about getting some Oakley H20 goggles with the black iridium lenses. Maybe pick up a 5-pack of clear lenses too? Are these any good or do they suck?

And is there a reason why a lot of jetskiers use their MX goggles instead of the H2O's?

It's too bad that they don't seem to have polarized lenses for these. Maybe I could just wear my polarized sunglasses under clear goggles.

Anyhow, steer me right if I'm heading down the wrong path with the H2O goggles and black iridium lenses.

Oops, just saw that the black iridium lenses add $28 to the price compared to the grey! Eek Will only get the black iridiums if I hear rave reviews!

Also, I plan on tying a float to the strap so they'll float instead of sink. I'll be the goofy guy with the float bouncing in the wind like a ponytail hahaha!

I have a pair of H20 goggles and like them alot.... except for riding my quad... the bottom of the goggles is open and lets all kinds of dust in.... but thats what I get for using H20 goggles in the dirt.
My buddy was using MX goggles at the jet ski races last week and they kept fogging up on him...
Bottom line get the correct type of goggle for the desired use.

PS anyone know were I can find the brackets that attach to a helmet and take the place of the goggle strap???? Anyone know what im talking about????

Nobody had anything to say about the black iridium lenses. Just expensive froufrou or are they nice? Other option is grey. Then there are the add-on lenses you buy seperate:

Clear
Persimmon
Ice Iridium
High Intensity Persimmon
Fire Iridium
Black Iridium

strangely they don't list grey in the replacement lenses.

Ok, now I'm going to sing some Devo:

Freedom of choice
Is what you got
Freedom from choice
Is what you want
In ancient rome there was a poem
About a dog who found two bone
He picked at one
He licked the other
He went in circles
He dropped dead

Arggggg. Too....many.....choices.....Please help!

Now this is my kind of discussion..I love the spray shield goggles riva has..25 bucks and they float! The lenses are the equivalent of the VR-28 by oakley, which is closest to an amber tint. The frames are an Oakley knockoff from one of their race models...waterjackets I think..

Polarized are the best for what we do, but they are pricey if they sink..I lost a polarzied Rx set of oakleys last year, about 300 bucks total and I had a good float on them. THAT made me mad...

Never tried snow goggles, and water conditions make a huge difference..If I was just river riding or flat to mild chop I'd just wear my nice polarized Oakleys that I have now (replaced the last pair..) But for wave jumping the spray shields are TOP NOTCH!!

oh, anything with a polycarbonate lens (all oakelys) will be shatterproof, but will scratch more easily..

DONT USE GLASS LENSES!!!

regular plastic, or CR-39 is good but can shatter..

Top shelf would be polycarb polarized, no mirror coating. 10 minutes of riding will have them so streaked you cant see thru them..and suntan lotion will eat the coating off a mirrored or anti-reflective coated lens.

Cool

I'm with Scott Y, I have the Spray Shields that Riva sells and I love them. I would strongly recommend them. I'm sure the Oakley's are great, but I have a hard time justifying the price when I know how effective the Spray Shields are.

Hmmm, $20 that's hard to beat. I hadn't even looked at the spray shields.

The Oakley H2O's aren't THAT bad though (as long as you don't make a habit of losing them!). With grey lens they're $37...from Riva or direct from Oakley. The black iridium is a little pricier. $65 frame and lens. A 5-pack of clear lenses for the H2O frame is $25. A 5-pack of the Persimmon lenses is also $25. All other replacement lenses $25 each except for the black iridium. It's $30 when bought seperately.

I will probably try the spray shields and benefit from the experience of you guys who have tried out a lot of the alternatives. I'm sure the savings can go to one of the numerous little expenses that are going to pop up as I start out. Registration, insurance, trailer parts, gas cans...etc. etc.

It's too bad though that neither the spray shields or H2Os are polarized. What do you guys think about wearing polarized sunglasses under clear lensed goggles (and would they fit under H2O's?)? I've got a couple pair of Eagle Eyes (don't laugh! They were a bargain) that I bought years ago on closeout at K-Mart for $5 a pair...including the cheesy, yet functional aluminum case. For the price they are great! Nothing wrong with the optics and they are polarized. They look a little cheesy though. Could wear those under clear and have a polarized view.

dont think Ive ever seen the Kmart polarized, but Ill tell you the difference with cheepies vs. real polarized lenses.

Polarization is a film, on a good lens (oakley, ray ban etc..) the actual lens is split in half and the film applied then the lens is sandwiched back togther. With cheepies the film is sprayed on the front surface of the lens and can be scratched right off..Id have to see them to say for sure how they were made.

fun trick with polarized lenses. Take to pairs of polarized specs, first hold them so you are looking thru both like you are wearing a 2 lenses.....now take them and hold them at 90 degree angles and you cannot see thru them!!!

Oh you've probably seen them. They're the "Eagle Eyes" that had the late night informercials also played on saturdays and sundays. I think they sold for $70 or so. Here's a link: http://www.eagleeyes.com/ Now do you know what I'm talking about? Big Grin

Anyways, once I was in a K-mart years back and they had a ton of these things in boxes piled high complete with the "As seen on TV logo". They were $5 a pair. I grabbed some for myself and a pair for my dad. He still uses his and I still where mine in the car. They've held up just fine and I've had no complaints other than way ugly on my face. They are by far the best $5 sunglasses I have ever bought! Big Grin

Thanks for looking out for me Olvid, but I just found them at a local MX shop... cant rembmer the name of them now...
Also ordered some new lenses for my Oakley H2O's and found out some good info... the H20's are the standard or "O" frame goggles which are designed for use with perscription glasses.. so you should be able to wear some ploarized glasses underneath them. I also looked in the 2003/2004 Oakley catalog and they show a polarized lense for the "O" frame but when we couldnt find a part number we called Oakley and they said they no longer carry them... Mad
I also have a set of spray shields that I use for rec riding and they work great.
HINT: What ever you wear, rub a little Rain-X on the lenses and it will help keep them clean a little longer on the water.

Those look just like the Riva Spray-shields except you have polarized. Yes, I'm interested. Hook me up!

scott_y, can you elaborate on how a polarized polycarbonate lens is going to streak after a little bit of riding? How exactly does this happen? Will applying a coat of Rain-X to both sides of the lens prevent it from happening? And is this basically why Riva just have the UV400 version of the spray shields and not the polarized that GP1300R London gets from seemingly the same supplier? Any comments, RC?

The polarized are new on the market and do not come from the same manufacturer as the Riva spray shields.I also supply a C Thru solution with my glasses and I have a wide range of colours. The polarized do not streak at all the only slight problem both have is that when riding in sea water the salt can stick to the lenses. The polarized are the best for water by a long way

sorry, should have made that more clear...The lenses will streak only due to the drying saltwater...not becuase of the poly/polar combo...I have heard mixed opinoins on rain-x, I thought I read on the package to not use it on plastic lenses becuase it can cause them to haze (due to the alcohol in it maybe?)..I have not put rain-x on my spray shields, Maybe Ill try that this weekend...
