I have narrowed my hunt to a close as stock 98 SJ with low hours and a 96 Kawasaki that has wideners and and hull extensions, but also has what looks like an early FP dry pipe on it.
I am leaning hard towards a stock 98 SJ and doing my own bolt-on's down the road. How well do stand-ups respond to milled head instead of adding a pipe and rejetting the carbs? Thanks TD B O A T = (Break out another thousand) |

What do you want it for?
FS, FR or CC? Anyway a SJ with pipe, rejet and more compression will rip, add mats, an impeller, bars, grate and plate (and 2 bilge pumps) and it will be much better than the SXI. 96 SXIs sucked on everything but going straight in the rough. 11 Building : 2003 S/S triple STXR (35% completed) 2003 ltd SXR (45% completed) 1971 French made left leg (61.34% completed) |

TD, if you are a big guy, then the SJ will suck. I weigh 200 pounds and even with weight in the nose, and an extended ride plate, my SJ porpoises like ****. I should have bought and SXI, and even better, should have waited and bought the SX-R. Its much better than SJ and SXI. Have you ridden the SX-R? If not, keep your money in the bank for a little longer and try one, then save a little more cause I'm sure you'll like it best.
take care, Enjoy all, Ray 1995 SS Sea Doo XP 2001 Not Quite Stock 1200 GPR 2002 Not Quite Stock Super Jet 2002 Not Quite Stock Kawi STX-R 2002 SS GPR |

Ray wherewere you?
Cool to see you're back... I beg to differ with you though, 200lbs is no big deal for a SJ, and yes, cut a couple inches from the pole and you'll be set. 11 Building : 2003 S/S triple STXR (35% completed) 2003 ltd SXR (45% completed) 1971 French made left leg (61.34% completed) |

I'm 6'1" 230 lbs. and I can get my '01 superjet to ride on the rideplate in the rough with no problems, it just took me a little while to learn how. BTW, I have a stock length handle pole but I attribute a lot of the non-porpoising to my worx intake grate.
I'd ridden both the SJ (obviously) and the SXI and I'd take the SJ hands down any day. Now if you can afford it, definitely go with the SXR, it will make a decent rider out of pretty much anybody. GP Joe #420 & #457 Novice 1200 S/S & Novice Ski Ltd. Region 5 '03 1st Overall Beginner Ski |

Hi Stef - haven't been able to get on riva from home since they went to the new forum so I have to check it from work and been **** busy at work too...
I guess to each his own, as usual, cause my SJ could use a longer hand pole instead of a shorter one. But long pole, short pole, whatever, I still prefer the ride of the SX-R over either the SJ or the SXI... RAY!!!!
Good seeing you again, buddy. I had a 95 SJ that porpoised like mad under my 6-3 275 lb. body. I shimmed an old Riva Groovy Plate and it smoothed it out. I think its the big man's curse that all stand ups will porpoise if you put a big person on them. My budget dictates used Super Jet. I have been lucky enough to get to ride an Octane and an SXR and they are great. I had no issues with the 701 motor in my 95 SJ, so I am going with the updated hull. I plan on having one before spring. Can't wait. TD B O A T = (Break out another thousand) |
