About the "new pump".

I figure what they did was put the 3 blade prop on the setback 1300r pump, and then put THAT assembly throughout the line... well heck, you got to have a new name now... How about we call it a HIGH PRESSURE PUMP. Yah, that sound coool. They will have to come buy that.

See what happens when I get a beer or six in me, with no doughnuts... I start to make sense.

knr, where did you find that weight??? the video alsa says completely new design hull and motor. my guess is less camshaft, timing and compression...thus, the low 8000 rpm vs the fx or fxho.

voodoo..its more cost effective for yamaha to produce the same motor and limit the hp via timing and other means electronically (in the programing). it may have different cams and slightly lower compression. in todays day and age a re-flash of a ecu with an aggressive fuel curve/ingnition curve can yeild substantial numbers. and for us motor heads....pull the head, mill a few thousanths, add the FXho cams...do a little port work and bingo. you have a 712 ibs 180+hp 3 seater....watching the video, it seems the boat has a good ride angle in the water. curious to hear what it does stock. if its in the mid 50's thats a good sign...especially with only 110hp.

remember, the higher the rpm the higher the amount of hp produced. same motor as the ho only spining to 8000 rpm.

plus, this may shed some light as what the "new" performance 2 seaters may handle like. If its anything like the FX...it should be good.

im just speculating....but i see potential here. especially with the low price tag.

Hop, I see what you're saying and it may be the sleeper of the year at great expense and loss of warranty I might add. My point was why did they spend the money to de-tune the engine? I don't see where the engine is any cheaper to produce in a de-tuned form, am I missing something here? If they wanted less power they could of just used the FX140 engine in its present form.

I read 715lbs on the spec page at yamaha.

Now @8000rpm did they remove the counter shaft
and now running direct drive....I forgot to look. But at 8000 rpm that doesnt give ya much room since the pumps are only designed to spin a little more than 8000 ...but you could get a steeper prop

I see an easy 3mph gain just with prop...ride plate intake grate removed air box with the arrestors...and well a efi unit would be about it. Might be a nice boat give it a chance and lets be friends with the new kid .... Big Grin

It might make it to the worthy side... Smile
Roll Eyes

Should be in next issue of PWI...which is due anytime

RC, get real man, we already have the HO with 160hp. Why do we need to start out modding a 3 seater with 110hp just to end up where the HO is Confused. I'm sure you can make the VX faster but unless you're talking 70+ we havn't made any headway in this years offerings in my book.
This thread is too long. I haven't read past here but in case it hasn't been mentioned the VX has the 1100 version of the MR-1 motor, not the 1000 version in the regular FX. I have no idea if it has weaker internals than the HO or is the same. It's possibly the same. And it's possible that it won't take too much money to bump the power up up up! Plus lighter hull too. Could be a really nice boat if the motor de-tuning can be cheaply reversed.

You're right Yamajuan, IF it can be done at a reasonable price it will be the sleeper of the year. The million dollar question is why doesn't Yamaha offer it Confused. I know, we have to wait ANOTHER year.

Because that's what their marketing geniuses, who might very well not make a million dollars a year combined, decided would be the approach of the year for best possible profit.

And how many times have we seen a crippled version of a high end product introduced that if it were any better could possibly eat into sales of said high end product. Those kind of situations give executive types nightmares. Many a company have even gone so far as to shoot themselves in the foot to avoid such situations.

It happens all the time with computer products. I wouldn't expect the management at Yamaha's PWC division to be any more clever than the business geniuses up north in the Silicon Valley. Roll Eyes Big Grin

VOODOO, when they detune a motor they usualy gain reliability.
Think how happy the rental places will be when they get an inexpensive(relative) Yamaha that is even longer lasting.

I think the new pump really is a new pump - and if it is better (which it probably is) we will have something else to spend some $$ on. If anybody can find out any details on the pump that would be good.
