I just bought a Kawasaki STXR after owning a 1200R. Let me tell you guys, anyone who wants top end, stay with the 1200R, but if anyone wants a holeshot, turning ability, a strong running motor, or an all out race ski, ditch the 1200R and get the Kawi. I owned a single piped 1200R and it was a dog, simply put. I got this thing, installed some carbs and heads, impeller and sponsons, all kinds of goodies and I haven't lost a holeshot yet, to any 1200R, any RXP, any XP, anything. But anyway, I raced the RXP and I must admit, I was shocked. I killed him on the holeshots, by boatlengths at the starts, but he catched up, doing about 2 or 3 mph faster. I talked to him, finding out he had a stock motor, and I realized I better go back to the dock and do some more mods. If anyone is interested also, I have a 2002 STXR for sale. Can be Superstock for under a grand. Has blackjack 48's, R&D heads, impellers, sponsons, triple pickups, Stinger mod with water pissers, all the goodies. I am asking $6800. Email me at Thor58L@aol.com

I have both. Modded STXR and my RXP takes it out of the hole.

The only STXR (or any ski period aside from another RXP) that has jumped me out of the hole was a limited class CC STXR running everything but triples including race gas domes and factory ignition.

ive heard about the hull issues, are they still cracking on the 2003 models?

will it keep up with a stock gpr on top end?

i was going to get a ultra 150 but as i ride at sea i went for the stxr for the hook up,im very happy with my gpr but a dealer near me are selling off left over 2003 utras and stxr's for £2100 off list price and comes with 2 years warranty, heavy duty trailer lighting board etc so i couldnt resist.its only gonna cost me £1200ish to change other wise i would of bought the 1300r

Steve stock vs stock, the GPR have at least 1.5-3 mph on top of STXR. I have both, when both were stock the STXR will humiliate the GPR out the hole, then the GPR take over after about 55 mph and just left the STXR in the dust (calm water).
Both ski has been out for a while, so there is a lot of after market stuff out there to make it fast. Hull issue is only on 2002 model, I havent heard anything on 03 +

c4del when you say calm water do you mean lake water or calm sea,coz over here in the uk the best ive gps'd my 1200r is 60.5 on flat sea,the sea is shiny flat but you hit a litle swell and it knocks ya speed right back down again do you know what i mean,? its the porpoising issue i think? will the gpr still beat the stxr in these conditions in the flatest of water i couldnt get past a standard 4tec,rxdi or should i get the ultra, i want to wipe the smile of my mates ponchous pilots face Big Grin

If you couldn't keep the GPR hooked, the Ultra will be alot worse.

the ultras are supposed to hook up better once you mastered it,or was that just the 99 models once you fitted the worx plate & grate

ive stepped the sponsons, ppk, solas,&protec grate when it had 10 hours , my mates stock gpr actually beats me in holeshot now, although i remember my ski having better hook up when the mods were 1st done,it has 91 hours on it now , i would mod my gpr further but after the hastle of hull inserts etc i cant be ar$$ed

imo, ultras are horrid to low down an handle like a pig, gprs are to big need money to go fast, rxp is a sofa in a straight dont like the corners, xp good all rounnd if u change the steering an have a few engines, stxr good allover just to low for me an a bit long feeling, polaris dont go there lol
so if u cantkeep the gpr hooked up an dont want to spend more on it go for the stxr or if u really wanna smoke yer pal an rxp.

also i have never seens a stxr beat a rxp even in heavy seas, but did see a lil blaster smoke one today til over 60 Wink lol

Adrenaline if you work on your pump/handling setup for a few 100's you should be able to still smoke him on the low end and be at least even on top.
Rough water handling will still be a formality.

Jarrett, I will gaurentee my ski can pull any RXP out of the hole that is on the water right now. Look at Havasu, who has been taking holeshots? Single Pipe STX-R's and even though RXP's haven't been out yet, they are still going to take a couple years of developement to keep up with these skis out of the hole.

That's an ignorant statement. There are already some very quick and fast RXPs on the water these days thanks to the Rotax Racing guys.

And starting with holders in CC and going from idle in a lake drag race are two different things. I'm talking about the latter.

Well, yes and no. What I mean is, maybe HIS PERSONAL STXR (that he is trying to dump) is faster than a bone stock RXP.

I don't think I've seen any bone-stock STXR's faster than bone-stock RXP's.

I'm only trying to get rid of the STXR to put more money into my quad. Salt water and dirt cost about the same to maintain, but I like riding quads alot more then jet skis. Thats is really the only reason I'm selling, not to get an RXP or 1300R, just trying to get an enclosed trailer and more mods to my quad.
