A few months ago I bought what was advertised as a 1998 GP1200 from a local seller, but I have discovered a few problems.

The first problem is that the ski, which supposedly had a NEW motor in it, died the same day I bought it. I replaced the stator and things were okay.

Things were okay until I rode for about 3 hours. The #3 cylinder is ruined. Piston is scratched badly and metal was in the intake port.

I'm thinking "S*** Happens" so I'll replace the motor. Here's where things get a little messed up. I get the motor out to see if it is still under warranty and I see 63M markings all over the motor. I was under the impression that the GP1200 came with a 65U motor and that must be a code for something else. Wrong. Its an 1100 motor in a GP1200 and it was advertised as a GP1200.

What should I do about this? If I send the core to SBT, they will only replace the motor that I send them and not upgrade, so I'm screwed on that end. Should I sue the guy for selling me the ski as a 1200, but actually having a 1100 motor in it?

Any thoughts? I would appreciate it.

I don't know how much you could accomplish by sueing 'ole boy. Might be worth a trip to small claims court though. You might also try telling the guy that you are a little upset with being duped on the motor. Tell him you would like some of your money back or you're going to take him to small claims court.

Small claims court is what I was thinking. I am in there quite often, seeing as I evict at least 3 people a month usually. I have gotten to know a few of the judges and I thought I might go that route.

I may be jumping the gun a bit, though. I was looking at some pictures on teh SBT site and think I may be wrong when I thought it is a 63M motor. Hopefully, the pictures are correct and I won't have to go through any hoops to get this thing going again. I was mainly upset that the ski doesn't run and that it appeared to be an 1100 engine.

Don't get too worked up just yet. A lot of the parts in the GP1200's are stamped 63m.

Go into the parts finder and act like you are going to buy the parts check the numbers then clear cart. The front of the engine looks different on the 1100's and thats about it other than the bores.

Well, I guess my inexperience is showing here. Big Grin Things are going to be taken care of soon. I talked to the fine folks at SBT today and the motor is still under warranty. You have no idea how much better my day got after hearing that. Thanks for the replies and please pardon my lack of knowledge about these engines.
