Toybox, Might I suggest central Texas. There is an abundance of lakes to go to and the landscape is really nice. There is also dirtbike tracks around. Austin is the closest to the lakes but S A has the lowest cost of living.
I guess it might depend on what you do for a living. RP.

I love Texas, but I am biased. That's a tough question on where to live though. I live up near Dallas and like it. Tons of lakes and rivers around. Folks are a little more high strung in Dallas it seems. Not sure on the quad/dirt bike front though.

Lots of folks really dig the Austin area. Cool, laidback folks and nice scenery down there. Lots of good lakes and rivers and closer to the ocean. Houston seems to be getting better and its 45 minutes from the ocean. East Texas is also really nice as well with lots of trees and some very cool lakes out there. I'm not too big on West Texas, but it might be better for the quad/dirt bike deal.

Austin area gets my vote,, It is just plain beutiful, rolling hills, steep rocky hills, I think 3 different lake to ride, clear water, homes are still affordable(got to remember I am originally from Cali, lol). Myself and the wife have often stated that if we won the lotto(yeah righ)that Austin would most deffinetly be concidered as a new home.
Houston is too flat, Hot, Humid, and to many mosqito's.

I would have to agree. I would be happy anywhere in the Texas Hill Country. I love that area.
