Strange question for you... friend of mine has an old tigershark with a cracked rideplate... friend of mine is an expert welder and I am going to ask him to weld it back together. Does anybody have any idea as to what it is made of? Am hoping it is an aluminum alloy... and not something silly like Magensium.... If it is an aluminum alloy... any idea as to metal content? Thanks.

i would think that if your friend is an expert welder he would be able to work it out

yes, he will figure something out... although it would be helpful to him if I know as much as possible in advance... will make the process quicker, easier and have a much higher chance of success.

Zoom - scrounge the internet for PWC junkyards, like M&M marine. They have lots of stuff, and may have an old rideplate for you.

boogie,
We have looked at many of these. Unfortunately there are not many left and the decent ones out there have a king's ransom attached ($ 400.00 range is what my buddy has seen). So, we figured the first stop would be to try and repair the current cracked one... worse case we have a literal melt-down and end up with a used one anyway... nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? Yup, it's cast aluminum. What model/year is it?

don't know the year.... my welding instructor used a TIG process with a 4143 (think that was the number) aluminum allow (with some copper I think)... worked real well - looks good.
