Has anyone ever installed a couple of marine speakers on a ski? Check out this link. Any feedback would be great.

You will probably have to put another battery in the ski.

There use to be a company out there in the later 90's called PWCtunes. Here is an old article about them. www.pwctunes.com

Thats the info I am looking for.
Thanks!
P.S. Great job on that project Hydo!
I would prefer something that I could just store in the forward compartment and only use when I beach the ski.
Like Crab Island! Cool

A stereo on a ski is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. Don't forget the gold curb feelers and some rice stickers.

a mount for your mp3 player might make more sense.. but don't let the earphones rip your ear off if you fall at 40mph..

don't make everybody hate jetskiers any more by listening to loud music they don't wanna hear.

pack a portable (batt operated) on a picnic for some music.

The post was for some ideas on marine speakers on a ski. Not whether or not you liked the idea there fullboogie. Roll Eyes
If you read the full forum, you will see that I am looking for something that I can hideaway in the compartment and mainly use when I beach the craft, thus eliminating a need to have a portable always banging around on the trip to the island.
DAV-What the heck are you talking about. Oh, i see, must be a Kaantuuuucky thang. Roll Eyes

Jumper-

You haven't been on here long enough to see some of the crazy junk people put on their skis. I'm talking about holes sawed in the sides with 10" subs, etc. Just wanted to steer you away from something you would regret later. Didn't mean to ruffle your feathers...

No problem.I usually get some pretty good responses and ideas on this forum, which is the reason that I post questions. As far as messing up my ski. Hell no! I just sold my 04 140 for this new 05 HO. I am more of a recreational cruiser, which is the reason I am inquiring about the whole stereo bit thats all. Smile

seaweed has the setup.

I think you'd need powered speakers or an amp. Still say forget the tuner and go with mp3 player so you can take your music anywhere dont hafta worry about it getttin stolen from ur ski.

I'm setting up my home, car, whatever so all i gotta do is tune to an FM station or plug in ..but all my music is goin' into mp3 files from now on.. convertin' the old stuff too.

Screw these guys rippin off my cd players in the truck anymore.

I like the idea... if you are going to do it... of a MP3 player you can plug in... maybe an amp mounted inside the hull... how about some speakers like in the picture, held on by wingnuts? You could mount them and ride, or you could leave them in the storage compartment until you wanted to use them; just plug the holes with some rubber stoppers while they are not mounted. If an inexpensive MP3 player gets wet, you might be out $75, but a SD card should survive just fine.

Just curious? What about the voltage issues? I can admit that I am green in the electrical area but wouldn't this but a big load on a small battery and the charging system? I was told once that continually draining and charging the battery put stress on the battery and alternator. Not sure if they knew what they were talking about, just my 2 cents. Any informed feed back would be great!

For any serious sized speakers, I'd consider a second battery (easy to replace would be smart), as well as use caps in the power line to prevent voltage spikes and lags.

As far as power consumption goes, I've been anchored and docked and have left the stereo on for more than 30 minutes without any problems. Of course, the battery gets its recharge whenever the engine is running. I've never had a dead battery while on the water, however I have had it die on me when I forgot to put it on the trickle charger while it sat in the garage for 3 weeks. I thought about installing a second battery but I changed my mind when I saw how well the one battery handled the load from the stereo.

i saw an article in personal watercraft illustrated where a guy put speakers on an xp
he replaced the tach and speedo with small circular speakers (i think maybe he moved the tach and speedo to where the mirrors were??? i dont really remember) and he did install another battery to run it, and he put a waterproof fm tuner in the front campartment (or somewhere)
he could only listen to fm radio and he couldnt change channels while he rode, but it worked and they wrote an article about it...

i have the fastest XL700 on the water......RIDE PLATE AND INTAKE GRATE ON IT!!!
