What a great event!!!! This was the best endurance race of the year...

Womak and Follmer took the overall on a GPR with over a minute lead.

Rius was superfast on that Yamaha FX160 Riva SC monster...until it blew up.

I agree Mark!!! Thank you for your company, friendship, Your drive to endure, Thank you for the times you had to push me back on the gpr and for refueling and trying to fix the gpr. Thanks goes out to H204u for all of the same reasons above. There is no way I could have competed in this event without both of you being there to support Hollywood and myself. Thank you! I will never be able to say it enough. Thank you riva for supporting this event. Now if the feeling in my legs and arms will come back ill be doing just fine.

Joe it was my honor.
Posted my good natured rant on PWCTODAY.
----------------------------------------
I'm still pretty touched by this entire event. Even though I wasn't physically able to participate, I was HONORED to pit for all the racers that let me help. I didn't know a bunch of you guys and gals, and it was great to see new faces. This was the MARK HAHN MEMORIAL HAVASU 300, and I did what I saw Mark Hahn do a THOUSAND times...get everyone back on the course.

I started writing a little smart-arsed blurb, but it changed and grew into this surprisingly gushy grammar nightmare. Anyway, here are some things that made me Proud. If it’s been previously said in other threads or when we were at the Awards, then I’m not surprised:

-Seeing Sandy and her son race. That is the highlight of the day. Hands down. Sandy…you said you wished you could have raced with Mark… On Saturday, you did. You are always in my heart.
-Mike Follmer specifically made this the event of the year. The whole beach-repair thing was incredible in itself. The awards were a class act! Yes, you did him proud with everything you touched. You did us all proud.
-Caldwell and Son, worked through the mechanical failures and pushed themselves past the limits of frustration, fatigue, jury-rigged cylinder bolts, crazy gas cans and a very disorganized pit team. I am very proud of you. You epitomized the spirit of endurance, and probably found out something about yourself while alone out on that course. Your finish was as hard-fought as the class winners. Alex, tell your girlfriend “happy birthday.” I chose not to embarrass her!!! Oklahoma Steve and Blake were a great pit team. Without them, Alex and Joe would have been picking up 77 lb fuel cans by your selves. Ol’ Steve DID call that grease spot early!!! Joe, I KNEW you were a Polaris man at heart!!! Great jacket!
-Vinnie and Chris were the other team that I saw bring the focus of endurance racing to the home. These guys spent TONS of hard earned cash to put the famous Flame boat back on the course. As is the case in endurance racing, it was screaming hard…then wet the bed. They worked their tails to the bone to get it to the finish line in one piece once problems started happening. Great jobs guys. I bet you never forget this race. As you stated in the awards, now you know what it really takes to put one boat on the line. Hey Vinnie, call it “irony” or “karma” or whatever. I know how that danged gasket got in the bottom of the hull. Mark did it. He needed a good laugh! You guys did him PROUD and brought it home on a wing and some duct tape!!! At one time, I saw one of you guys come around the course without a seat, and steam pouring out… I could have swore it looked like Mark was riding it until the wheels fell out.
-Seeing Chris being the family man driving the Sportsman to the pits with all the children hanging off him and the quad. That was cool.
-Follmer/Womak in winning form. These guys ran a smart race, with a ski that did not reek of money, and speed... just experience, reliability and repeatability. Your pits showed how an endurance race works. Your attitude would have made Mark proud.
-Rudedawg NOT launching himself. Just kidding, I couldn’t resist. Eric and Joe raced a great race. Glad I could help you with my $0.75 rusty bungee strap. I KNEW I brought that thing for a good reason. Eric, your write-up of the event on the other thread is pretty cool. Just to add to it, After we left the race site on Saturday, the bottom dropped out and rained steady. It was like we had a “window” of opportunity. Somebody was watching out for us, as you stated.
-Mulligan and team ran my old RXP in this race. That was special to me. Mark talked me into buying the grey ghost, and it was great to see it out there running at the top for most of the day. Great job Steve. I glad you are happy with it.
-The standup riders. They raced the entire race. Every few laps were a nail biting pit stop. I got to help the green kawi pit once. They all rode the entire race. You are the ELITE standup riders that can actually step up and say out loud “I have raced endurance. I understand now.” We all cheered and clapped every time we had the time to see you leave the pits. Looter, you sponsored a team too??? You da man!
-Nedra and her cow bell made me laugh every time a racer would leave the pits. That was so cool. 5+ hours of ringing that bell!! You just know Mark was chuckling at this.
-The sponsors. Man, that was pretty cool. Especially those limited few that promised to take care of intangibles like gas, and entry fees. An average endurance race weekend running a 2 hour race can run upwards of $300 for a small team with zero problems and a stock boat. For a race like this, sponsors actually make a difference in the race and split the cost accordingly. I believe this is what Mark was working towards… A partnership within and beyond to make this great sport affordable, as well as provide a way to promote those companies that actually care about the racers.
-I could go on and on...but I think we get the picture here. This was a fitting tribute to a great warrior, friend and family man. If you finish reading my gushing slop, and understand, than I highly suggest you find a way to race a REAL endurance race that requires pitting, and strategy, team work and a pit crew. Bring your family, camp out if possible. Saturday was one of those races. In a word…Saturday was INCREDIBLE.

I hope to have pics up by tomorrow night. If you have some and want to put them online, send them to me at mer43@cox.net

Joe and Mark glad to see that the race was a great success. I am sure you guys made Mark Hahn and all his memories proud. I met him once in 03 at the finals and he was a class act and stand up guy. May his memories live on forever.

Congrats again on a job well done.

pat, Thanks for the congrats. Like Mark said with out my wonderful pit crew we would have never made it on the water. So many things happened that day I am still going threw every moment on the water and awards ceremony. Things like mark running around trying to get a stripped cylinder bolt to stay in place to alex my son and riding partner splashing gas in his eyes, Me yelling at rius as he lapped me and trying to stay with him to get the lap back and him looking at me like I was a crazed man. To seeing sandy and the entire hahn family at the awards. Waking up in the morning with the wind blowing and storm clouds over head only to have the sun come out and wind die down for the entire race. When we got back to the motel room the skies opened up and it poored. I thought of the rain as tears of joy from the renegade himself after sitting up there and watching this grand event. Good times with good friends thats all I can say. Thank you Mark, steve, blake, alex and brittany for being there and taking part in this historic race.

This was, without a doubt, the best Jet ski race I've had the honor of participating in.It paid great honor to a great man,and brought me closer to some great friends.Joe "GPR INSANEDIEGO"is to be commended for his never say die drive, and will to finish the race in Mark Hahns honor.Hollywood "Joe's son"also gave all he had to the cause.Mark "Hydrotoys" was spot on with his vast knowledge, and large assortment of Jet ski band aids.It was good to see Brian and his wife too!Special thanks also go to Follmer for his participation, and all the special things he did at the awards cerimoney for Sandy and the family. He is a winner in more ways than just the race. All in all it was a great tribute to Mark Hahn the greatest "Renegade"that ever was,and his memory has served well as a reminder of what he was all about, and all the good things that can come from opening your heart and lending a helping hand.
