NOT SURE BUT THE SALT CONTENT HAS ALOT TO DO WITH BOUANCY. THE MORE SALT CONTENT THE HIGHER YOU FLOAT.

Thats true so salt water has to be denser so more friction and slower speeds, thats why everyone is faster then me there all running in that nice clean lake water Big Grin

I have found that fresh water is good for maybe an extra mph easily, ride in both regularly.

not true-salt water is faster. there was a lengthy article in pwi not long ago by kevin cameron(very knowledgeable) on salt vs. fresh and warm vs. cold. i will pull it up and get back for reference. several boat and watercraft experts all came to same conclusion-salt water is 1-2mph faster.(more buoyancy-less friction)

This is true when dealing with exposed props. With jet drives the opposite is true. We've done back to back testing for verification.

So, what everyone is saying here is... Salt water provides more bouancy, but has a higher density. With fresh water, you don't have as much bouancy, but make up for it with the lower density. Also, the fresh doesn't do as much damage to the equipment, so even if salt was faster, you're better off in fresh. Less work, less damage... now with added bonus of less density and higher speeds!!

Of course, none of this applies if you are from Texas or New York... Wink

October,2003 personal watercraft illustrated: one of the original fathers of watercraft, gary robison, at novi products says that testing on fresh water lakes versus the nearby ocean gave the advantage to the ocean- by about 1-1.5mph. he attributed this to the 2.5 percent denser ocean water's lifting slightly more of the WATERCRAFTS HULL out of the water, thereby reducing skin friction. In this example, water temp would be the same and the only variable would be water density. once again i guess you cant believe all you read, huh?
