unlessy have scratches or bare fibregass to cover, primer is not needed. you should use a good 2 part automotive paint [paint and hardener] to resist scratching and chipping and basically last a long time. If your existingf paint has 'spider cracks' or hairline cracks, these should be sanded completely out then primed with a high build primer to get back to an even surface.
