Congratulations to the team of Steve Friebe and Jon Casner (Yamaha) for establishing a new distance world record at the Salton Sea Team Endurance "300" this past weekend.
In near perfect water conditions, almost as smooth as glass, the team logged 55 laps around the 6.8-mile racecourse to set the distance record at the 9th Annual Team "300." Expected winds during mid-day never materialized, glassy water prevailed and the fact that the Salton Sea is quite buoyant, helped establish the new distance and speed records. The team averaged 63.5 m.p.h. for the event. In the meantime Friebe and Casner also picked up the top award for the Open Expert Class and Friebe nailed not only the Class championship for the year but the #1 Overall plate for 2004. A good year for the Clovis, CA rider who has been inching his way to the top for the past two seasons. A tremendous effort was also put forth by Rookie John Anick, Los Angeles, CA (SeaDoo), who teamed up with Nick Vanis, Los Alamitos, CA. They finished second overall and first in the Beginner Bone Stock Class. At first it was thought that they had captured the overall, but a computer glitch shorted Friebe/Casner of one lap. Shortly thereafter the error was found while verifying all lap times. Regardless, Anick and Vanis is one team to look out for in 2004. Third overall and first in Open Stock Class was the team of John Belton, Redondo Beach, CA and Tracy Malan, Barstow, CA (Kawasaki). The team put a terrific effort to work their way through the pack and wind up in the third overall spot. According to Belton, they will retire his trusty Kawasaki and a new and improved version of it will be making its appearance in 2004. A complete report on the Team "300" race will follow. In the meantime, results and lap times are posted on our website. Here's the link: http://www.bpmotorsports.net/03-tm4-SaltonSea-Results-web.pdf We would also like to thank all racers, families and crews who took part in this year's BPMS/APBA All-Around Off-Shore/Endurance Series. Twelve events later the season is over and new anticipation is brewing for the 2004 Off-Shore/Endurance season. We would especially like to thank our 2003 Sponsors: KAWASAKI MOTORS, POLARIS INDUSTRIES, YAMAHA MOTORS, FXF PRODUCTIONS, NORTH HOLLYWOOD HONDA-SEADOO, TOM'S TRUCK CENTER, BODY GLOVE, PERALTA DESIGN, TECATE BEER, and the countless friends and volunteers who made the season a success. Not the least of which are all the venues we used (Long Beach, Lake Isabella, Big Bear Lake, Lake Cahuilla, Lake Perris, Pittsburg, CA, the Salton Sea, and their officers and staff for welcoming our events. We look forward to working with all of them again in 2004. |

Suz, You really need to use quotes if you are going to copy and paste a news release from Lou. I'm sure that you don't want people to actually think that you wrote that article.
