hello all a friend of mine just got a 2003 kaw stx 900 from her uncle out west only been in fresh water but here on the virginia coast its all salt water the big question from her is how does she flush it after use ? she is unable to ask her uncle since he has passed away the ski runs like a champ and she wants to help keep it that way by getting the salt out !
make sure you have all the proper connections to connect to your garden hose, then make sure your fuel switch is on,with the water off connect your hose to where your flush fitting is, start the engine first idle for about 10 secconds the turn water on about medium flow, give the throttle a few short stabs reving up the engine and letting it idle then give it some more stabs, it helps clear water out of the water box i do this for about 2 minutes or more, then while its still running turn water off, and give a few more stabs of the throttle, and a few big ones too to clear as much water as possible.
I then give the engine a spray with a cheap water displacement oil, sparingly if not at all on the rubber bits. (the cheap stuff evapourates after a few days and doesn't leave a thick film) it doesn't hurt to push some grease through all grease points to push out any water that may have entered
replace the seat and wash the outside, I lube all cables and use the same spray on pump unit. this is my after day routine, i may have missed something but thats roughly it
thats the question where do they flush it ? where are the connections ? is it something that has to be added after it is bought from the dealer ? we searched and can not find any place to attach the garden hose. if its a standard deal please describe where to attach the hose thnak you much for any input
