I tried to do a search but could really find anything....
Can someone give me some feedback on both these skis and which one is "better"? I already know the obvious... gas mileage is better on the 15F, the 15F is heavier than the STXR etc. What I want to find out is which one performs better and can the hull/pump/prop mods from a STXR be transferred to a 15F? I guess the prop will need to be repitched for the 15F. Which one has a better holeshot, topend, midrange etc.? Thanks in advance. I currently own a STXR and I am in the market for another ski... thinking strongly of the 15F or maybe even getting another STXR or last place maybe a RXT. Been very happy with kawi reliability and not sold on sea-doo reliability mainly because I have never owned one and those that I know that do own them always seem to be wrenching on something. I talked to the owner of a 15F that was running an STXR pump on his at the Asbury Park Race in NJ this past month, but not sure exactly all the components he was running.
His company is Rated-R in New Jersey. I'll post or PM you his site address so you can contact him about it, or you can search on Google for his shop. |

cue, the best way is a test ride on the 15F.
I personally rode both, and stock to stock the 15F was better, for me. That's why I bought the 2005. Reliability, gas consumption and hole shot, the 15F is better. On Top speed they are even 61-63MPH. My 15F is doing "out of the box" 61.5-62.5 and the acceleration is incredible. no smoke, no issues with 2 cicle oil, it sounds great, handling great. What else can i tell you? If you ask for reliability the 15F is the way to go. If you like to wrench you ski for racing the STX-R is better. That's why I also have a tripple pipe Ultra But I love my 15F ...benjie |

Loving my wifes 15F too.
The thing comes out of the hole like no other stock ski and with the gas prices like they are, it's a lot cheaper to run. Jeff Jeff 05 GP1300R 05 STX-15F |

RAMNJ, I would like contact the owner if that is ok.
Hmm, sounds really good so far for the 15F, it just seems that there isn't much more speed to be had (hoping to get in the 67+ range) without jumping all the way up to the Riva SC. I don't want to do that.... don't want race gas. Keep the comments coming. -- CUE |

Besides the dual cooling tubes coming off the top of the 15F pump, the pumps have exactly the same internals.

well as you have already read the 15f takes a lot of beating... Its must be in teh top 3 for the best all round ski although i'd say the best. Why Well thats quite simple... Seadoo has the problem with being seadoo, the reliability problems, the GPR just don't do it anymore although it is a Yamaha so it reliable and the Kawi has the grunt its hot off the mark and it handles OK out the box... And when you spean money on all 3 skis.... the kawi only gets better and better. As do the other ski i know but in my opinion the Kawi gets the better results with marked improvement.
Also the kawi is pretty much bullet proof give or take a few hitches like the hood and the hoses, but hey ho. I've got mine to 65MPH, with a few extras like Ride Plate R&D Impeller Skat Trak 13/19r Extended Nozzle R&D Plenum Filter Beach House Sponsons and still yet to install the Riva Water box delete kit so hopefully i'll get a few more horses... Go for the 15f... you know you want to. good luck. |

Kawisun, and others,
excellent information. Kawisun, thanks for posting your mod information and your outcome. That is good information and can help me in my decision. I will be curious to see/hear what you new results are after the waterbox delete kit. Maybe even the free-flow exhaust. I have the r&d ride plate, the extended nozzle and the beach house sponsons already. They are all on my STXR. I am assuming that all that I listed there can be directly transferred across to the 15F with no problems. Someone mentioned above about the pump from the STXR on the 15F.... I thought they were the same pumps? Is the crappy hood latch fixed on the '06 15Fs? -- CUE |

No on the Sponsons. The exit nozzle and stearing nozzle of a 15F are larger than that of a STXR. I have both boats but they are heavly modded so stock to stock is hard to relate, but before I put my 15F on steriods,it was alot of reliable fun. Quiet and clean with no oil to worry about.
Must say that with the free flow and other small mods you can have a fun fast boat plus this years 15F looks great. (Green) STXR are no longer. So you would have to buy used or left over. Not much for you on trade in. |

Stock comparisons....
From a dead stop the 15-f will outpull the stxr to topend. The stxr has a 1-2mph average topspeed advantage. In choppy water the 15-f hugs the surface better and can sustain high 50-s where as teh stxr will sustain mid 50's.This is 1 foot chop. The stxr at 35 mph will pull on a 15-f. CLosing comments..... I have ridden both skis alot and have a stxr with a impeller. In my opinion the stxr is a funnier ski and its whats stands out the most to me is the midrange punch of the stxr compared to its 4-stroke counterpart the 15-f. Granted teh 15-f does accelerate out of the hole quicker,(slightly, like a hair lenght) but the STX-r powerband can be felt and gives that arm jerking experience we all love. Hey Mike,
I'm suprised you didn't show up at the shootout on Sunday...or did you? |
||||
|
Are you talkiung to me?? My name is Mike. You wouldnt catch me at the shootout as I would have been the laughing stock of the event with my GP1200 hitting illegal speeds of 62+
My style has always been ocean riding in the surf as I have 1 gp1200 and 1 gp800. Ofcourse the STXR comes out on the weekends when waves are flat to keep the tourists at the ramp in check. Beleive it or not my stxr with just an impeller that hits 61mph was completely undefeated this year in grude races. I swear to god on this and it took at 2 RXP's. There is always some light chop here and none of the other skis could sustain high speeds like this stxr hull could. Also, 1 more thing to note. My ski destroyed a stage 1 1300r from a dead stop, and the 1300r never was able to regain the loss on me. Man, I wish I had triples!!!! THen again no, cause I would be screaming at all the tuning I would have to go through. 1999 GP1200 62mph High Octane, Riva Everything, No Tripples 2005 STX-R 62mph 14/20 Solas 1998 GP800 58mph 14/18 Solas R&D Valves |
