I have and Ultra 250 with 18 hours. Recently, I developed a bit of an engine miss between 2-3,000 RPM's on gradual acceleration. It will also stumble or hold back power until you accelerate past the above RPM's then when the power comes back, it almost throws you off the back of the ski! I have also never been able to achieve a top-speed past 60-61 mph on the speedo or GPS since I've owned it (smooth water). I keep reading the ski will do between 66-68, I can't even sniff that speed and that's the whole reason I bought it so I could keep up with my buddy's GXP. Anyone experienced this problem? I have an appointment with the Dealer but not for two weeks and I'd like to know if this is a common problem or someone else has experienced the described conditions.

Neither our service or r&d departments have seen this problem. I don't recall seeing any other posts about it either. Hopefully your dealer will be able to shed some light on things after you take it in.

Thank you for responding. I will post the results of the Service Appt. which will hopefully identify the issue. I noticed last night when I started the boat for a few seconds the idle flucuates about 500 rpm. It appears as though the computer is seaching for the correct RPM's

I did pull the plugs, #2 is black and sooty but with no oil present. I think the culprit is a fouled plug, I will see what the dealer has to say; I would have already changed the plugs myself, but the Dealership does not have any plugs in stock! Would it be normal to go through a set of plugs in 18 hrs? If that's the case, this is going to be an expensive ski to maintain.

Whatever you do, buy NGK spark plugs. They are the best. I've tried other brands in my SXR and they did not run well at all; just kept fowling. You can buy NGK's at Kragen. Don't bother buying anything from Modesto Kawasaki unless you absolutely have too (If that's where you bought your ski).

I did buy it from Modesto Kawasaki and picked it up on Friday. They told me there was a small rock in the pump? How could that cause an engine miss and stumble. "The tech said there were no codes and we think that's what was wrong with it." No one has the new spark plug for the new Ultra, they are in fact on National backorder, which was confirmed back the Kawi dealer in Carson City, NV.

I told the boat out after the dealer "repair", it's worse now than it was when I brought it in! Disappointment would be an understatement...

I had previously posted a complaint about my Ultra 250X that had a stumble and severe engine miss. It had no trouble codes stored in the computer but had a definite miss under load. I had suspected a fouled plug and when I tried to purchase the OE plugs from the Dealer, I found they were on National Backorder? Why? This is a new plug and has no cross reference or higher heat range plug that will work in it's place. I requested they remove plugs from a new boat and install them in mine this boat only had 17 hours at the time. End result, it fixed the problem. I also found out that apparently the Dealer has no way to communicate with the boat's on board computer. They retrieve codes the same way I would which is on the dash. They had contacted the tech line at Kawasaki who apparently offered little information and had no solution. My suspicion is there is a problem with the plugs and when are available they existing plug number will be superceded by a new number. Kawasaki is proud of those plugs too, they are $25.00 each! I have also noticed pictures of top speed which are apparently when you look at the on board computer which records the higest rpm's and top speed. Perhaps someone can explain why a higher top speed is recorded in memory, than you ever see while you're actually riding. I've never seen my speedo hit anything close to 67 mph, yet that speed has been recorded in the memory. Is there some sort of electronic conversion from the tach to the speedometer reading? Riva perhaps you can shed some light there.

You Dealer is a dip-weed.
Service techs need the KDS sofware with adpater plug and cables.

Here Ill give it to you so you can tell the cheep azzes to buy it.

Though the KDS can not detect if the spark plug actually fired or not it can iliminate all other issues that would have pionted to the foiling plug. Would have taken 10min.

Here.

KDS Software Version 2.4 #57001-1506
Signal Converter #57001-1504
Com Cable and Adapter #57001-1470
KDS Apter Cable #57001-1696

Copper Jim--I agree with Orlando. Modesto Kawi service dept is terrible. One of the main reasons is they do not focus in PWC anymore (even though they still sell a couple of units here and there). All of their employees focus more on motorcycles. That have little knowledge regarding PWC. I walked in there one day and needed an OEM part for my ski, the parts person looked at me like I was speaking a different language. They had not clue what an SXR was until they looked it up on their computer. That's why I stopped taking my skis there. If you can't figure the problem out on your own. Two dealers I recomend is Bikeworld in Sunnyvale (that's where I bought mine) or Good Times Kawasaki in Sacramento. I know it may be a long drive for you, but it might be worth it in the long run...Somedays I wish Riva had a West Coast-Northern California facility...Hint Hint Wink

Actually, the software is now up to version 2.4. There is a new piece for `07 models to connect the diagnostic equipment as well. Click here for a complete listing of Kawasaki PWC Diagnostic Equipment.

Hats off to Kawi for offering the diagnostic software for sale.

Does the purchase price include future revisions or do you need to buy each version as it is released?

Try a new set of plugs, I've seen this twice on the Ultra 250's where the problem was a bad plug with machines under 20 hours.
