ok. my name is jorge. i just bought a ride plate. its a modified riva/r&d plate. when i gps'd the ski stock, it did a best of 61.5 in less than ideal waters. today, i gps'd the ski after installing the ride plate. it went 65.something in worse conditions than the ride i went 61.5. dont get me wrong, i like the speed but i have a few questions. again, the ski is stock cept a ride plate.

first, when cruising at mid speeds (25-35) the ski rocks from side to side, like a baby cradle. is this normal? what can i do to remedy this.

second, when i let off the throttle at full speeds, the ski violently turns to the right. how can i remedy this. thanx

thanx guys. ok more questions.

first, what do i do to the sponsons to "step" them? or is that an aftermarket thing?

second, will that intake grate help with the sharp right turn thing?

i basically want the ski to NOT do the sharp turn thing. i dont want to have a friend riding and kill him/her self.

also, i noticed the ski jumps up and down a lot. what can i do to fix that? thanx again people

to step them notch out the center holes. This will allow you to lift the front and lower the rear.

AJ, cool pic

so when the sponsons are mounted the front is up and the rear is down - this will help stop the bouncing

get a double bar intake grate - this will stop the sharp turns

3.5 mph from just a plate - pretty good!

The other thing you can do to reduce the bouncing is to add some washers under all of the bolts of the trim tabs - so step the sponsons first and if it still bounces too much add a washer or two under all 4 bolts for each trim tab

yea man, im excited. anyways, ill try the washer thing, and if that doesnt work, ill do the stepping thing.

phil, what's the difference between the plate u sold me and the speed cut plate u just bought? thanx

also, will adding the intake grate u sold me (r&d modded) help with the violent turning problem? and what "problems" will i run into with the intake grate that i should know about? thanx

also, whats the fastest i can get my ski (2000gpr) without touching the motor? i want to extract all the speed i can, before touching the motor. no matter the cost. motor last. thanx

Pump seal kit and Nujet6.5 will get you 68-69 with no motor mods.

try the stepped sponsons 1st - it is easier

the Island Plate fits nicer on a 1300

yes the R&D grate will solve the violent turning problem

a Nujet 6.5 will give you another 2 mph

or if the other thread is correct you might try adding a FX HO pump and a Solas prop and get an extra 3.5 mph (almost sounds too good to be true)??????

ok, so u guys say nu-jet over solas for top speed? or should i get that 14/20 pitched to 12/18? thanx

also, the stock sponsons are best for speed? or can i get some riva ones? i want the positive turning but not something that will scrub too much speed. thanx

stock for speed.

I prefer the 6.5 over the reworked 14/20

on the rideplate, trim tab and sponson settings you use

if you set the ski up so that it porpoises you then run the risk of having the ski get out of control, porpoise badly and do a sharp turn on you - what happens is the ski bounces lands on the front and bingo you go straight and ski veers violently to the left or right - all in a matter of seconds

so if you are using an angled rideplate you need to also do somethings to control the porpoising
- step the sponsons
- use extended trim tabs
- shim the trim tabs down

and you still need to get rid of the stock grate - it is just plain unsafe at speed

yes that plate has had the angle increased, the rear mounts were machined down a bit - this causes the ski to want to porpoise more - it is also one of the reasons you gained 3.5 mph - it is a trade off

so if you ride in anything but flat water you need to offset the increased angle on the plate by doing one of the suggestions above (or you could simply shim down the rear of the plate by puting a washer under the rear mounting bolts)

I'd suggest you start by stepping the sponsons and adding 1 washer under all of the trim tab bolts
if it still bounces leave sponsons stepped and add a 2nd washer under all of the trim tab bolts
if it still bounces, add a 3rd washer under the trim tab bolts (you will need to get longer trim tab bolts if you add this many washers)

that grate is fine (it is ideally suited for rough water hook-up and handling)

if you are looking for the highest possible top speed another choice would be a GP800R grate, it will be 1 mph faster - but the holeshot is terrible with that grate - again another trade off

with any grate you need to seal the pump area with silicone, especially the area between the hull transom plate the the pump shoe - the R&R shoe doesn't need a pump plug kit - the stock shoe does

see Pump Sealing
