I posted a msg in another forum last week on my new 1300 and the swaying experience I am encountering. I have had the ski out now twice for about 2 hours each time, trying to get past this break in period. WHile out the last time, I noticed something that I didnt notice the first time out. At speeds between 16 and say 25 or so, the ski has a bad side to side sway.
I ride in a nice calm river with little or no current. I checked everything I could check and nothing seems to be broke or lose. And from the sounds of it, this is a common occurance with this ski and I dont have anything to wory about.
My question is this. Ive heard changeing the sponsons help with performance. Can anyone make some suggestions and or input on this. Also, for the time being, should I change the settings on the stock sponsons. I hear stepping them helps a little too. If so, Which way should they be stepped?
Thanks guys.

What you are experiencing is known as "chine walk". Its due to hull design. The hull was designed for cornering and good high speed stability. Its the nature of the beast. Most performance boats have the same issue. You can somewhat minimize it, but you will never get rid of it. The GPR hull either wants to be at idle or wide open throttle.

I know everyone complains about this, but I like the side-to-side sway on the GPr's. But then again, I like the roller coster ride SouthWest airlines gives me at 38000 feet. I'm still waiting for a 500 foot drop in altidude ... I'm sure I'll like that too ... weeeeee.
Why did you buy a GPR if you want to ride at 25 mph? I like the little sway if I'm at trolling speed but give it a little gas man. Once you hit 30 it's gone, so why worry about it? You don't need to break it in that slow, put the hammer down.
95% of my cruising is in the 25 to 35mph zone. at that speed, side to side is the nature of the beast...the other 5% is over 70...and its straight as an arrow.

Maybe Im just panicking. My girlfriend and I sold her 98GTX and bought two new yamis, the 1300 and the 1200. Just a littke paranoid I guess, sure dont want anything go wrong with these things you know.
As soon as I get past this **** break in period, Ill have no problem kicking the trolling speed. I'll tell ya though, it seems like a tank of gas lasts forever at this speed. One more time out and I should have her emptied.
Now the 1200 on the other hand, I think someone is sneaking in filling the tank up when were not looking. At this rate it'll be all summer before the tank is emptied on it.

Dont worry, that will all change. I consume 16 gallons in 2 hours on my 1300r. My modded 991200 gobbles down the full tank of 13.2 gallons in a ridicolous time of 1 hour 45 minutes. No lie!! All depends on how you ride, and when I am riding the Rpm's never see less then 5000. Its always between 5500 and 7000!!! You have 2 time bombs waiting until you get that waveeater stuff for both your skis. Highly recommended and I will have mine on in 2 weeks. Its not going to be under warranty for ever, so it gives you good piece of mind that you are nipping this defect in the but now. Cheers!!
