Understand that I have tried probably 50 prop different combos over the years w/ my old style GP. Today was one of the best over-all props I've ever used. Period.

Air Temp: 89 degrees
Water temp: 81 degrees
Saltwater
Humidity and RAD: Direct from Hades ( H E L L)
145 lbs. Comp. head
92 Octane
Prop: Skat Trak XI with Carl's pitch and bend.

R&D intake grate/Base Tech sponsons/RIVA limited ride plate w/ my home-made shims in (maximum hook-up),6920 @ 63.1 mph "lotta drag". Without the shims 6980 @ 64.7 mph on a GPS. This is also after a mechanical problem arose yesterday and I repaired this morning. In any case, these are very low rpm numbers with high top-end speed numbers. Very weird. Eventhough the Skat XI is the steepest prop and made for triple pipes..it worked well w/ Carl's bend.

What makes this so special is the way I went through the chop...usually with a Solas J or X prop, it will unhook at different rpm's/mph. With the Skat, I was not losing the re-entry hook-up as much, plus I retained excellant top-end numbers.

This is not the fastest the ski has ever been but, it is the fastest it has been with great hook-up. I am impressed to say the least. Aside from Mario's pump...this is the best combo I have ever used.

I really don't know what Mr. Carl does to his props...and I reeeeally don't care. It works...very well. [Big Grin] Thats what counts.

Nice job Carl...I did'nt even have tidal water to help! [Eek!]
Mike

Mike,
I don't have a stroker....maybe next year. [Wink] Were the props you tried all used with your stroker? I'm trying to decide on sending a J or XO to Carl for bending. Can a J be made to come out of the hole like an XO, but still retain good top end? I love acceleration, but still want "descent" top. (Heard that before?)
Off this subject, but while your here I gave your bud Dan a call yesterday about taper boring my carbs and he said he couldn't help me. [Frown] He hasn't done any in 2yrs and didn't have any spray bars. Who else would you recommend/trust for carb modding? I also wanted to ask what has been done to your exhaust manifold? Extrude hone or something more? My GP is apart right now and the mind is going crazy, if ya know whatta mean. [Roll Eyes]

Just sent out my used Solas XO to Carl for some work. This is off my 99GP. I'll dig this post up next week and post results. Mike.

smrpn,
I had a hunch Lamey would'nt do anymore carbs...he will do a stroker though [Wink]

You can probably let George Grabowski do a taper-bore & Prok atomizer mod to your carbs. This will work just fine. We've had him do a few carb mods...good work. Acceleration and top-end will increase significantly.

Send the XO prop to Carl, let him know the target rpm's you're trying to hit (7000-7100) and let him do his thing. The J is actually for straight-line grudge racing in flat water. The XO will give you your best all around.

LILGPR,
No can do on the Hydro Turf bash...say hello to Kenny Ritchie for me. He runs the national IJSBA tour, but I think he'll be there. He has a very fast red GPR...very fast. Have fun [Big Grin] and stay away from Hydro Turf girls! [Razz]

NJ...I think you're gonna like the prop. Just make sure you tell him the target rpm's. Carl is on to something...I'm impressed.

Mike

Mike,
Thanks for the reply. How do I get in touch with George? I was told that the prok "atomizers" blubber on bottom, so I forgot about 'em.

smrpn, BS the Atomizers work great. Prok does not have them any longer. They do not dribble at all. RPM racing has their own version and they are great. Drop me an email and I will send you some pictures.

Carl also did a fantastic job on my 97's J, thing hooks almost as good as my Magnum, he does know his stuff. Now I guess we'll blame "East Coast" saltwater.
