I pulled all plugs out, notice #3 with some shine on it. Looked in head, notice it had small pits on piston. Pulled cover to PV's, the pin is gone on three and not surewhat else. The motor will not turn over with the plugs out.I'm now a member of the Yamaha's PV F**king club.

i too am a member of the famous power valve failure club!
it happend last july,on my #1 cylinder.the pin fell out, snapped the power valve in half then dropped almost into the cylinder.it hit the top of piston and mushroomedit.to make a long story short i'm almost done rebuilding and soon to drop it in the water for the first time soon.it wont happen again cause i put the weveeater clips in.i suggest you do the same after you fix your ski. |

I am a member of this infamous club too. Darn. It cost me 1000 bucks and 2 weeks in my garage. The positive thing is, I learned alot. It happened July 4th last year. This was AFTER I put in the R&D valves just so I WOULDN'T have to go thru this...GO FIGURE>

I too am a new member to the club but I am a very lucky member..
My r's started to drop.. lucky I noticed the difference when doing some drag racing with friends two weeks ago. The pin was sitting under the power valve cap and the valve just started to nick the rings/pistons. If this club is not enough motivation for GPR owners to purchase waveaters clips I don't know what is. [ 06-13-2003, 02:01 PM: Message edited by: MDKOCHE ] |

MD,
I first had that happen in Nov 01 on my PTO Cyl and the allen screw came out. The stop was worn (this wasn't the R&D but the brass color 00 stockers). The end was shiny but I didn't pull the cylinder to check the rings. I installed the R&D "soft 1st edition" valves in April 02. By July the stops worn and took out the Mag cyl. I pulled all 3 cyl and found the PTO had a warp in the ring slot from when the stockers screw came out. FUN FUN FUN. |

Just wondering what yr models you guys have. I have not had any problems with my 01 but I went ahead and installed the clips yesterday anyway. This is the first time I have touched my ski since last summer and it is still running at 71 mph. rp
