i made a mistake by getting an sbt motor last season instead of rebuilding mine. i rode one time this year and the front piston fried. had the dealer do me a favor and dropped a new piston in for me. voided the warranty. took it out again, ran good then stopped. took out the motor and the front seal and bearing were fried. anyone else have that problem with these motors? could there have been an airleak? just ordered a new sbt piston and bearings and seal from riva. anything i should watch out for durring the assembly? thanks

I HATE to say it,but I would start over & have a crank built by a reputable crank rebuilder & replace those pistons with Prox pistons.

I wouldnt give you a nickle for all the SBT motors that have been built. [Frown]

I've heard the same thing from many different people. However, I do not have personal experience with SBT.

the antiod was missing on one of the cylinders also. it still would have cost me a lot of money to have the engine sent back down and a new one put in. so forget the warranty. i don't like to speak badly about a company, but this is something that i did not do my research on. also the center screw that holds in the powervale fell out and was sitting in the port. they could replace it over and over again. this time i am doing it myself. just my experience.

I got a sbt in my sons 93 seadoo ,Been in for two and a half seasons maybe 120 hours on it.No problems.Got one of there cranks in one of my yamahas no problems .You know its not always the engines fault ,There are a lot of jack leg mechanics out there (not saying the person that installed yours was),think they know what they are doing.Question..when you put the ski up for the winter.what did you do to it.Didyou pull the plugs and or fog the motor? It sounds like lack of lubrication to that one cylinder.

i am not knocking the company. i also have another engine in my 98 gp1200 that is two years old. the point i am making is that i feel this one engine was never right from day one. as far as winterizing, that was done by a professional. the front bearing usually goes when the front seal breaks and air hits it. the crank was supper heated too. when i put it back together myself, i will make sure that everything is done to spec. i will keep posting.

Sorry, but I must put an end to this thread. Due to some pretty intense legal issues that flared up from the last SBT thread we (RIVA) would rather SBT not be discussed on our forums. Sorry for the inconvenience.
