Hi guys,
I have a 02 GPR1200, Stage 1 kit, + heads and exaust slicencer removed.
It would not start this week after last weekend outing, starter spinning and battery all sweet, Suspect Bendix,
Pulled motor out and inside front cover WATER !!
cleaned up and close check, found whole top piece of upper crankcase cracked aroundLhside exaust mount and down the RHside bolt hole, when we removed the RH bolt the whole piece can off. There is also a small hole in the top LH corner ging to a water jacket I think.
TOO Major to weld and surface back and get exact, due to top crack is right on base of barrel.
Someone down here suggested it was due to the Riva heads been fitted and the weight of the exaustpipeup front.
Any problems up there and if so any suggestions on how to over come it, as a set of cases in NZ$2800-3000 second hand. !!!! OUCH
John

I can sell you a set for $400(us) plus shipping.

I know a transplanted kiwi from church. He was telling me how expensive certain thing are over there.

I haven't heard of this problem before.

Sorry to read about your problem. I can assure you, and anyone else, the crack was not caused by our heads. We've been selling the same head kit since the GP1200R was released and never had this problem brought to our attention.

Here are a couple of things that you should check.

  • Cylinder bolt torque.
  • Crankcase bolt torque.

If either were too tight or loose that can lend to the damage your cases have sustained.

    Hi Guys,
On the orignal head there is a bracket connecting the two front head bolts to the two exaust mounting bolts, when the Riva heads are installed, is there a bracket supplied to replace this stoke one, as the orignal heads are flat at the top and the Riva ones have recessed cap screws to hold down, therefore the orignal bracket will not farsen correctly and give the correct torque to these two front bolts?

The original bracket is used along with two aluminum spacers we supply that are installed between the cylinder head and bracket.

Please see step 9a of our installation instructions. click here
