My GP12R throttle seized and locked open, so I ran it for a while to heat things up, but it was still tight so I just took it to my local ski dealer and told him to fix it and $600 later I got it back. It worked fine, but I've only ridden it 3 times and now it has done it again. As I rode yesterday it got tighter and after I let it sit for 10-15mins, it siezed up again.

I plan to take it back to the dealer, but just wanted to know if anyone had any idea what could cause that.

Thanks.

Sounds like the throttle blades sticking. How many hours on the carbs? Might need a carb rebuild. What did the dealer do for $600.00?

114 hours. From what I can tell, they did little to nothing.

It also has a flat spot between 3,000-5,000RPM, don't know if it's related, but that only seems to happen randomly??????

At 114 hours it could well be ready for a top end, and there should be no dead spots through the rev range.
Have sent you a PM.

Hi Brett

I had a problem that sounds like this. My throttle shaft on 1 of the carbs was stuck after one winter. I pulled the shaft out and by hand put a drill bit through the plastic bush that holds it in place. The plastic bush must have shrunk and I haven't been able to find a replacement part for it so the drill bit has worked for now.

Thanks Mike,
From what I can tell, corrosion builds up behind the nylon bushings and squeezes the throttle shafts until they seize. I just wish I'd checked the dealer reputation before I let him at it.

It looks like Riva sells the rebuild kits http://www.rivayamaha.com/RivaStore/product_page.asp?Ca...aft%20Rebuild%20Kits for GP12R, if not, watcon says they have the OEM parts.

But i'll have to see where I go with this shoddy job first.
