Ok, last year while at the cottage I broke my OEM steering nozzle (and of course) I didn't have a spare.
This year I brought 3 nozzles with me to the cottage, including a metal (unbreakable) Protec nozzle. I really like the way the ski steers with the Protec - ski responds much quicker when you use the outside adjustment mounting hole. Revised - In todays testing with a different (more traditional) set-up my top speed was identical with both the Protec and the OEM steering nozzles - I confirmed these results with multiple test runs. 20mm over?
Is the internal jet diameter the same, yet longer? Mark http://www.hydrotoys.com 2000 GP1500R 4tecSC S3 2002 GP1500R CF 4tecSC Turbo 2004 Polaris MSX 4tecSC S3 2002 Octane |

Dang. I'm holding myself back.
But I do like the way it turns better. I'm running the Pro-Tec extended |

9mm longer
the inside diamter is also slightly larger compared to the stock nozzle the Protec nozzle castings on the inside are not as smooth - it could use some work with a dremel or grinder to smmoth things out GP1300R Stage II - Step by step instructions http://rivaforums.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=6446095904&f=4...571066093#2571066093 GP1530R Stage II Big Bore - Step by step instructions http://rivaforums.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/4886094314/m/2481074825 Hydrotoys - all sorts of stuff! http://www.hydrotoys.com/gpr/ CajanDude - GP1200R Manual & Info http://www.cajundude.com/jetskihome.htm My Ebay Store – Used (good) stuff for sale: http://stores.ebay.com/Yamaha-GPR/?refid=store |

The diameter on my Protec is the same as stock!!!s [Fernando HANDLING IS SAFETY & SAFETY COMES FIRST!!! |

Philip, are you sure it's the1200/1300r nozzle you have, or did you cut it down to be 9mm longer?
My nozzle is also exactly the same diamiter as my oem, and 20mm longer. I know they do a +50mm longer one as well. The only one I know of that comes from Pro-tec that is less than 20mm longer is the xlt nozzle, and that is 12mm longer. You don't stop playing because you grow old, you grow old because you stop playing! |

I measured it again and it is 9 mm longer than the OEM nozzle (105 mm vs 96 mm).
The inside diamter is 91.7 mm (which yes, is the same as the OEM nozzle I have with me) I purchase the nozzle used so I have no idea what the protec part # is - it doesn't look like it has been cut down but who knows. Bottom line - this nozzle works well and it won't break - it is going on the project ski. I could drink to that. I belive that the Protec nozzle in conjunction with other minor details may help yield better speeds. Take a look the last 5 mm of the OD of the nozzle [Fernando HANDLING IS SAFETY & SAFETY COMES FIRST!!! |

Thanks Fercho. I ordered a Pro-Tec 20mm extended nozzle last night after reading this.
I like all these little tricks that aren't too invasive. I pulled 72.3 in 110° at Senators wash with Joe and Mark. Not too bad for the list of mods I have 2000 GP1200R 75.2 & 7240 @ 75° 2001 GPR 1300 ported 80.6 @ 7280 hopefully more to come My email address is murphjmm@hotmail.com |

OK. New Pro-Tec nozzle showed up and out came the calipers. Yes they are calibrated. The Pro-Tec nozzle inner diameter is .004" smaller than stock. Thats about 1.5 human hairs. Actual sizes are stock 3.620" and Pro-Tec 3.616".Close enough to be called the same. The length is 20 mm longer.
Phillip, your Pro-Tec nozzle has been modified. I'll have a good idea in a week or two if it helps much. There is probably a little there. I'll take both nozzles to Senators Wash and test them back to back. I am also going to raise my sponsons and see if my handling goes in the sht-house. Sounds like a good day. Now that I found a place where I can leave my trailer attached to my new 4wd truck and use it for a dock the back to back testing stuff will be fun. 2000 GP1200R 75.2 & 7240 @ 75° 2001 GPR 1300 ported 80.6 @ 7280 hopefully more to come My email address is murphjmm@hotmail.com |

I used a Protec 50mm ext nozzle for endurance racing. For me it gave me a little more top end when the water was rough. I went back and forth from the stock one to the protec one, keeping the same grate, plate, sponson combo. I also tried it with the 5 degree vs. the 3 degree exit nozzle. Same results. (info on the nozzle it is supposed to only enhance turning situations) I felt that it also helped for endurance racing, the ski seemed to hook up better. I think in the full up position it helps angle the boat up a little more than stock. I could be wrong but thats what it felt like. Good luck...

I sanded the lip off my stock nozzle. So when I do make it testing I'll test a Pro-Tec nozzle, a stock nozzle with lip sanded off and a stock nozzle. Should be interesting.

The bottom lip of the nozzle?

I think some, not all, OEM nozzles have a lip on the inside diameter. I think that is why my OEM nozzle originally measured less than my Protec nozzle. Outside diameter. Re-read Fercho's post and take a look at your stock nozzle. Theres a lip. The nozzle is underwater or mostly underwater. The lip on my nozzle was pretty abrupt.
There are a lot of things we have mainly overlooked. Its time to go back through it. I don't think it will make a huge difference, but all these little things will add up.
