Just took my 05 FX-HO and GP1300R out onto the ocean on Sunday, and they were both running great until we trolled for about 20 mins to get out of the bay and onto the ocean, when i finally got there and went to punch it, it just bogged and topped out @ 8mph, and obviously wouldn't plain out.

So i checked the intake for debris, and the hull for any oil or water and nothing. Started heading back, and made it. Ski did smoke more than usual it seemed, but never even got close to overheating (coolant water coming out was COLDER then that of my FX-HO) Let it sit for 10 mins, then took it out again and it would get up to about 40mph, then let it sit for about 30 mins and it would reach top speed again, but not for very long. It sounded fine, but would sputter like a fuel or air problem once throttled up. Ski has only had its first service and now has 30hrs on it

I did quick search and couldnt come up with anything, so does anyone have any thoughts?
Any ideas?

just ridding in salt water will not cause that... is the ski giving any kind of codes?

yeah, i knew the salt water wasn't the reason, but thought it still might be important to note. No beeps or lights on the guage, all fuses look good, plug wires are secure, but didn't pull the plugs yet

i have an 05 1300r too and i had the issue twice. More than likely its ur cat converter clogged up. Thats what happened to me. I fixed the issue the second time by removing the cat and adding a d plate. Hope that helps.

also if your using yamalube instead of a higher end 2-stroke oil might be the problem. yamalube tends to load up more when trolling at lower speeds so you may have fouled a plug or two or three.yamalube also does clog up the cat-con faster than some of the higher end 2-stroke oils out there.

nah..it's not that hard to see if your cat is clogged. riva has an expanded view of your cat area the hard part is not messing up the copper gaskets and putting everything back together without leaks. but my guess is either cat clogged or plugs are fouled. both can be bad due to using yamalube , that stuff sux....lol..i've heard of cats failing in less than 40 hrs. i replaced mine with the d-plate after my 10 hr. service just to avoid problems later.

next time it trips a warning beep shut it down and hold the reset button till a number flashes post that code in here and i can tell you what it means, also you might get it to give you a number in your driveway. start it then shut it off and before the dasboard goes blank hold the button in and see what it says. 01 means normal.
if so then you'll have to take it out and get it trip on the water.i think this will only work on the gpr not sure about the fx.

so, i put on the d-plate

The cat con was junked up but not broken. It appears that the gasket failed and it was leaking water inside

Pics to come

I had a similar salt water issue.... so if your d-plate replacement doesn't fix it, I had one more idea.

The spark plug wires will fail as they age, but will not stop working. However, if they get salt water mist in the engine compartment, they will arc, and the ski will nose over.

Your 05 cat is one of the first ones I've heard of the fuel injected skis to blow apart the cat.

the cat was still intact, just all junked up

Took out the ski this morning for 3 hrs, and not one hint of a problem, and no leaks
